 Prologue- Broken Souls

Snow pours from the winter sky. A frozen cold breeze tickles a man's face. The man spits onto the ground, while his coat adjusts to his sudden movements. Irritated, he was angry for what "she" had done to his parents. On that night, many suffered from "her" terror. He was one of the few that barely survived "her" terror. The night so few remember the night that took the lives of so many. The night of the Broken Souls.

Peter POV August 20, 1916, Brussel, Belgium

It's been two years under German occupation. This is a suicide mission for having a peace meeting in enemy territory. The ballroom of the hotel we were in was decorated with glorious decorations. Lights of chandlers reflect on every corner of the room. The room was filled with some of the elite people on the Allies side. I had been amazed more than everyone else in that room. The aroma of champagne was more satisfying to me than all of the perfume and cologne the people were wearing. I would have wanted to talk to someone else other than Spade, but everyone else was strangers to me except my parents. My parents played a major role in the war for owning the biggest gun factory business in all of Europe. Nevertheless, they were there to discuss some trading deals with the Allies. I was talking to them, Spade and my parents, when suddenly we smelled a peculiar aroma spread through the room like wildfire. We heard screams and cries for help piercing from the other rooms. Bang! Bang! Bam! The door busted down. I was scared for my life when I saw the Germans enter the room with gas masks and guns. I kept my parents close, not wanting to lose them, for they are the only family I have left. These monsters have no sympathy for anyone here. Monsters are emotionless creatures who feast on fools. I went to the front of the group to see five monsters.

The shortest one with a feminine voice sounded like they were on helium with the mask on, and was giving out orders to the other monsters. I recognized the voice... Was it her? Yes, it was "her", The Ruler of Everything. I couldn't make out what "she" was saying because of the gas mask. Still, words sometimes speak louder than actions. " THEY ARE GONNA KILL US ALL!" Someone screamed out from the top of their lungs. Boom! Their blood painted the room while their brains came down with them to the floor. That gunshot started the whole room to cause a commotion. Most people started having coughing fits before passing out, while others tried to go through the window they were shot before they got there. I tried to find my parents in this hellhole, but Spade dragged me away and squeezed me through an air vent. The last time I saw my parents were when they were gassed in fear for themselves and for me. After getting out the smallest air vents in the world, we went to the sewers which were infested with rodents, snakes, and spiders. Six-foot vines seemed down covering the walls of the dark sewers. Some of the vines were as long as a cobra in the Sahara desert. We were later founded by the French. I think it was early September when we were found. It was a miracle that we weren't caught by the Germans. The sunblind me after being in the dark, stinky sewers for weeks. It was relieving to be in the fresh air again despite being blind and being very hungry. Apparently, the gas in the ballroom we were in was toxic and it was impossible for any survivors to be alive. Spade, a few others, and I were the only survivors during the attack except for the enemy. The fact that my parent's death took a harsh toll on me. My soul was broken, my old life was gone, my family was gone, and I just couldn't see myself living anymore. I cried so much it had more inches than the rainfall that day. I wanted revenge from "her". I am their vengeance and I will and I mean I will avenge my parents and my brother's death. Spade it will be alright and that I will move on later, but I really don't think that I will move on. Still, He is lucky, he had two younger brothers and his parents while I have no one.

Present Day, Winter of 1954, Paris, France. Third POV.

This night broke many families, souls, and lives. It was hard for many people to move on just like Peter. Some did move on but those who were stubborn couldn't forgive the monsters that killed their loved ones. On that night, there were three hundred people in that room. Only five people got out alive. Peter and Spade were some of the few that got out in time.

Peter sighs and continues walking on the cold, snowy, Paris sidewalk. When Peter was younger, before the Night of Broken Souls, he was friends with "her". He even went to school with his nemesis.  He even thought of "her" like a younger sister but his love for "her"  faded away on that night and years before when "she" killed his brother. Thank god for him, she is dead, he killed her during  WW2, but we won't go further there, for now. He thought and decided he might give Spade a visit. After all, Spade didn't betray him or so he thought, spade could have. It didn't mean he did betray Peter. However, Spade wasn't home, so he went to see his daughter, Marie-Laurane.
