Elaia's POV

April 19 2019

'Those piercing green eyes, where do I remember them?' I asked myself feeling frustrated as adrenaline coursed through my blood. I viciously run around my room trying to find a particular portrait I remember sketching five years ago when I was sixteen years old. I searched through the drawers, under the bed and the closet, no results. Bang! The flower vase dropped on the vinyl tiles. 'Honey, everything okay up there?' my mother's footsteps vibrate as she walks up the stairs.' Think Elle, Think!' I whispered, forcing myself to think, to remember what at least happened that night of the accident. Why couldn't I remember anything? 'Elle, everything okay?' A familiar voice questioned. 'Oh, Uhm, yes mom everything's fine, just tryna study for the test,' I pretended. She put the back of her hand on my forehead to check my temperature. 'Oh honey, you're temperature's gone high again, rest sweetheart.' She said while sitting me on the bed. 'I'm going to the grocery store, do you want anything?' I shook my head as she closed the door behind her. When I heard the car engine start, I sneaked in moms bedroom. I looked in her closet... 'BINGO!' I screamed in excitement as I discovered a safe developed between clothes 'Crap' I snapped in the realization that I needed a passcode to open the stubborn metal case. Maybe her birthday? 0926. 'Access denied!' My birthday? 0404. 'Access denied!' I snooped through mom's diary which had the date; 'March 11 2016,' I scrunched my nose shocked, 'three years ago!' I flipped through every page in the diary, nothing showed up. 'Where do I remember this day?' I place the diary down on her study desk. 'I place the digits on the code reader of the safe, 0311. Excitement filled me as the safe opened. A box appeared. I quickly opened the box to discover the portrait I sketched 'why does she have this and in her safe?' I questioned mentally, documents and letters were also in the box. I read one of the letters;

'Dear Ruby,

Our daughter is safe and we miss you. Meet us at the river and midnight, we are ready to escape.' Argggh I screamed in frustration, 'who is Ruby?' I analyzed the documents. 'Ruby Abigale Lassaro' I quickly snapped a photo of each of the documents, and papers. 'Something isn't right.' I thought to myself. I logged on to my laptop account and searched up the date March 11 2016. 'An accidental crime!' I clicked on the article. '17-year-old Ruby Abigale Lassaro an exchange student from Canada, 18-year-old Axel Blake Harris and their two-year-old daughter, Angela Harris were in an accident luckily Axel and Angela survived but Ruby ended in a fatal state,' I could barely breathe. Who is Ruby? 'Honey, I bought some snacks.' I was so distracted, I didn't realize my mom was home. 'I'll be right there.' I closed the tab and shut down my laptop. 'Who is RUBY and why is she getting to my head?' something isn't right...
