Preparations

After about 30 minutes of mya and mir rambling about everything from choosing Myas college major, which is to be a business woman, like our mother, to telling me about our granny and her medical condition. She's diabetic and has been dealing with it for a while now. I miss her so much, she'd probably be really happy to see me. I take a mental note to visit her soon. Finally settling into a comfortable silence, we pull into the drive way of our home.

"I can't wait to go inside, my bed is calling my name." I say exaggerating, having a good streach after I got out of the car. I could finally lay down and get a good nap in. I was on the Greyhound for about three hours and being cramped up on a bus seat for more than twenty four hours isn't exactly the best way to travel.

I look up from retrieving my bags from the hatch I see mya already unlocking the door. I smile to myself, she's so excited I'm home. With the help of amir, we managed to get all of my belongings up the driveway and into the house. It wasn't much, but i don't exactly pack light.

After settling in and putting my bags in my room, I was so excited to talk to my parents, I decided to unpack later. Walking out of my room, I turn off the lights before closing the door.

Heading down stairs, I go straight to the kitchen, knowing that's where I'll find my mom. At the sound of my footsteps she looks up from her recipe book, her eyes looking over my face before smiling brightly. "Oh my baby, welcome home sweetie I missed you so much." She says, her voice quivering a bit. Opening her arms out to me, I walk around the kitchen island now standing in front of her. Pulling me into her embrace I place my chin on her, shoulder sighing in contentment.

"I missed you so much Mom, I'm so happy I'm home." I say, my eyes tearing up as I squeeze her tight. I always get emotional when I hug my mom. Everytime we hug, I think of how strong she is and how much I love her. How much I appreciate her and how big of a role she plays in my life. Her arms were Like my safe haven. Whenever I needed someone, I went to her, and she would be there waiting me with open arms.

I sigh pulling away, getting a good look at her. My eyes travled over her facial features. She hasn't changed much since the last time if seen her. Her hair had a few grey streaks, her skin smooth and soft as I remember. Although she is more delicate now. Everyone used to say I was her twin, because we looked so much alike. I used to be confused hearing people saying that, but now I understand what they mean.

'I'm a spitting image of my mother.' I thought. Only thing was that I didn't have her amazing cooking skills. I mean, sure I knew how to make chicken and romen noodles but that's typical college dorm food.

Snapping out of my thoughts, I look down at my mom's recipe book. She was looking at an old recipe she used to make it for dinner all the time. Me, mya, and mir all loved it, I turn my head looking at her. " You're making this?" I ask her, pointing at the book. Hoping she'd say yes and she'd not been passing up the page looking for another recipe to make. She nodded. "Well since you were coming home, I figure I'd make you your favorite for dinner." She said getting the ingredients prepared for her cooking.

Looking at the time, I realized it was only going on one o'clock. "Oh okay, well where is dad?" I asked grabbing a pot out of the cabinet, I set it onto the stove.

"At work, he won't be home until six." She said. Turning to me before continuing to speak. "He will be bringing over a few co-workers for dinner, they just launched another line successfully. So we are having dinner and wine to celebrate." I nod. "How many of them will it be?" I ask hoping there wouldn't be many. "About three, maybe four." She shrugged. I nod my head again." Okay well what time will this be?"I ask grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge. "Around seven. Make sure to wear something nice."
