Inspired by 'I won't say I'm in Love' from Hercules
Rumours were held and circulated deeply about the Wayne Manor's reputable garden, a large amount of land provided and owned by the Waynes for generations, carefully cut and trimmed topiaries moulded beautifully into animals (that Damian had infamously liked to behead for 'training'). A variety of impressive water features like the main water fountain in the centre of the gardens are surrounded by a small army of greek sculptures, and a few other 'smaller' features.
There was also of course Alfred Pennyworth's prized hybrid orchids hidden away in the Wayne Greenhouse, where Damian knew he had got most of the Manor's fresh produce in the morning. And the was also his Bruce's mother's rose wall that Pennyworth had looked after, as it scaled in sheer size on the west wing of the garden.
The night was tranquil, cold was the light touch of Gotham's night-, quite a blessing since Gotham was known for its notoriously cold weather. Stars littered like small diamonds and the moon shone favouringly in its crescent form.
"Thank you," I said to Damian as I held his hand tighter, "For tonight I mean," I say.
Damian only gives a gentle smile, "I told you, it's alright."
It was silent for the rest of the stroll around the gardens, my eyes like a child appreciating how different and beautiful the gardens were at night. Damian guides me through the complexities in the middle of the garden, showing me the statues and each story behind the different greek person.
"Are all the famous heroes of Greece have their arms broken off," I tease.
"Well, actually my brothers and I, when we were young, had a full-on war that led to the garden-, pure coincidence," Damian chuckles slightly recalling the time when he was chasing down Tim and Jason like a madman.
"Alfred wouldn't have like that," I tilt my head.
"Nope," Damian shudders, "We had to survive a week without him. We were hopeless."
"Pff," I smirk letting out a laugh. I crane my neck to Damian whose expression only softens as I raise a brow. "What's with you?"
"It's good to see you laughing again," Damian says moving a strand of hair behind my ear. My smile drops as I look away. Damian smirks teasingly as he walks towards the fountain as he picks up a white flower and comes back to me.
"For you," he gestures as I pause, hesitantly taking the flower. "It's beautiful," I study the flower, never noticing how pretty the petals were at night.
"It's only beautiful because it's near you," he says.
"Smooth," I tease.
"I'm serious," his voice is unwavering as heat rises to my face. Damian chuckles as he shakes his head, "Come, let's sit," he gestures to the fountain glittering like the fountain of youth, illuminated softly by the moonlight. Both of us sit at the edge as I sit-, awkwardly I must say next to him.
After a few minutes of the awkward silence Damian's fingers brush on mine, "I just wanted to say-,"
Before Damian could finish what he was saying, his phone rings. Loudly. Grumbling as he mutters curse words in Arabic he jabs the button and puts the phone against his ear.
"What?" he spat. Damian seems annoyed by the minute as the conversation drags on for a minute or two longer.
"I'm so sorry Father needs me," he says
"It's ok," I say with a smile trying not to show any sign of disappointment.
"I'll be back before you know it," he stands up and quickly bends down and gives a quick peck on the cheek as I jerk in shock. Damian only smirks at my reaction and runs off to the cave.
"I-," my voice trails as I look at the white flower Damian gave me and smile giddily only to stop and sigh. "You think a girl will learn," I put the flower down and stand up.
"If there's a prize for rotten judgement
I guess I've already won that," I sing and walk towards the sculptures gazing at them expecting something will happen and glare"No man is worth the aggravation
That's ancient history, been there, done that!" I sing and turn on my heel.Soon the sculptures turn out to be Jason, Tim and Dick with greek togas and they sing
"Who'd' ya think you're kiddin'
He's the Earth and heaven to you
Try to keep it hidden
Honey, we can see right through you
Girl, ya can't conceal it
We know how ya feel and
Who you're thinking of," They sing as they all jump down and trail behind me."No chance, no way
I won't say it, no, no," I sing waving my hand dismissively"You swoon, you sigh
Why deny it uh-oh," they sing"It's too cliche
I won't say I'm in love," I walk to the fountain trying to escape them as I lean on hands and gaze at the water."I thought my heart had learned its lesson
It feels so good when you start out
My head is screaming get a grip, girl
Unless you're dying to cry your heart out
Oh," I sing and stand up on the fountain edge."You keep on denying
Who you are and how you're feeling
Baby, we're not buying
Hon, we saw ya hit the ceiling
Face it like a grown-up
When ya gonna own up
That ya got, got, got it bad" They sing"Whoa: No chance, no way
I won't say it, no, no," I sing in annoyance and sit down.
"Give up, give in," Jason and Dick sing sitting on the floor and put their elbows on the edge of the fountain with a smug look on their faces."Check the grid you're in love!" Tim sings and puts a holographic grid.
"This scene won't play,
I won't say I'm in love," I sing."You're doin' flips read our lips
You're in love," They sing as they hover around me mockingly."You're way off base!
I won't say it!""She won't say it!" Dick sings throwing hands.
"Get off my case,
I won't say it!" I sing turning my head as they surround me."Girl, don't be proud
It's O.K. you're in love," They sing and I gaze into the fountain to see my reflection and they disappear as ripples start to form of a small illusion of Damian's face smiling at me."Oh-ohhhhh
At least out loud,
I won't say I'm in love" I say and gaze at the flower and hold it close to my chest and gaze at the stars.
