Alexander Hamilton was in his office writing non-stop to try and get his mind off of everything. He was dreading going home and meeting his wife, Eliza, because he recently published 'The Reynolds Pamphlet', an article about Alexander cheating on his wife with a young woman called Maria Reynolds. He was hoping that Eliza would forgive him.
Alex turned around as he heard his door slam open. His wife was standing in the doorway; she looked a mess. Her hair was messy and her makeup had dripped down her face from her crying. She was holding a bottle of whisky in one hand and a copy of The Reynolds Pamphlet in the other.
"Eliza..." Alexander mumbled.
"You published the letters she wrote you," Eliza said quietly. Her voice was breaking slightly after crying so much, "you told the whole world how you brought this girl into our bed! By clearing your name, you've ruined our lives..."
Eliza started to pour the whisky around the table where all of Alexander's papers were on.
"Eliza! What are you doing?" Alex gasped.
Eliza ignored Alex and placed The Reynolds Pamphlet on top of Alexander's work. She took out a match from her pocket and set it alight.
"Don't do anything stupid, Eliza!" Alex gulped.
"I hope that you burn!" his wife growled and threw the match on Alex's papers and slammed the door behind her as she left the room. Alex heard a lock noise as unfortunately the doors in the building can be locked from the outside and Eliza managed to steal the key for Alexander's office.
"My papers!" Alex shrieked. The flames quickly spread through the alcohol so Alex had to run through the flames, getting major burns in the process. His papers were already burnt beyond repair so Alexander knew he had to leave that instant. He ran to his door and tried with all his strength to open the door but he heard correctly. The door was locked. He started to cough as the ash started to reach his lungs; he understood that if he didn't leave soon, he'll be dead for sure. He grabbed his bag which was not yet on fire and smashed open his window.
Coincidentally, there was a tree not far from his window. Alex slowly walked on the rim of the building's brick pattern and climbed down the tree to safety. He ran away from the offices until he found a small wood. It wasn't the best place to stay, obviously, but he had no choice. He couldn't go back home as Eliza thought he was dead and would probably try and kill him again if she knew that her plan failed.
Alex took a moment to treat his injuries. He had a small first-aid kit in his bag he managed to save and took out some bandages. Alex looked down at his hands and noticed that one of his fingers looked shrivelled and infected. There was nothing he could do apart from amputate it. He had to bite his lip hard to try and stop him from screaming as he didn't want anyone finding him so the word won't spread to Eliza that he's alive. He wanted revenge for what she did to him and he had just the plan.
Meanwhile, Eliza was in her bedroom sobbing silently. What has she done? How could she murder her own husband? She looked down at her baby bump. Yes, she was pregnant but now her unborn child is going to grow up fatherless.
"I came as soon as I heard!" a concerned voice said.
Eliza turned around and sighed with relief; it was only her older sister, Angelica. She ran and hugged her.
"Thank god it's only you..." Eliza whimped.
"Eliza, love, are you alright?" Angelica asked, "Why have you been crying?"
"I haven't been crying," Eliza said while trying to break a smile.
"You're my sister. I know when you've been crying. You can tell me, right?"
"I've done something terrible..." Eliza sighed.
She broke down while explaining everything. From the affair to her being pregnant to her burning down Alex's office.
"I feel so guilty..." Eliza sobbed, "what if someone finds out?"
"It's okay Eliza... no one will found out," Angelica said while hugging her sister. She was very upset about what Eliza had done as she secretly loved Alexander but he hurt Eliza. Angelica couldn't help but think that he deserved what he got.
"I just feel like he's still here... watching me..." Eliza shuddered. She just kept picturing Alex's scared face in her head.
"Please stop crying..." Angelica said sympathetically while wiping some of Eliza's tears away, "everything is going to be fine."
Eliza sighed and looked up. She felt her heart stop for a second as she saw a silhouette of Alexander standing outside. She shook her head and when she looked up, he was gone. Was she going crazy? He couldn't of survived that fire... surely...
