"Sorrow!" A loud yell pierced the air as Shadowus, a pale vampire with black hair and black wings with red-to-purple highlights, searched frantically for his friend. A rustle in the bushes made him freeze. A large, black wolf with wings like Shadowus's jumped out of the bush and tackled him. Shadowus pushed the wolf off. "Not funny, Sorrow," he said. The wolf turned into a girl with tannish skin and brown hair and started to laugh.

"Got ya," she replied, and ran off. Shadowus sped after her and hugged her from behind.

"No," he whispered to her. "I got you," and he wrestled her to the ground, pinning her arms down so she couldn't fight back. After about a minute, he released her and they got up, laughing. "Where were you?" asked Shadowus.

"Sorry. I had to meet my dad."

"Being the future leader must be tiring." Sorrow's father, Radulf, was the leader of their pack.

"Sorrow, I respect your royal responsibilities."

"And I respect yours." Shadowus was royal adviser to the Vampire queen, Safiria, and also her son. He was only a half-blood, but becuase Safiria was his mother, he was still royalty.

"But you gotta tell me when you're leaving. I thought you got captured by rogues."

"I know. I'm sorry." Sorrow hugged Shadowus and they started walking.

"So, what did your father wanna talk to you about?" Shadowus asked.

"Oh, you know," replied Sorrow. "He's thinking of stepping down in a few years." Shadowus stopped in his tracks.

"He's doing WHAT?!"

"Yeah. My father is stepping down from his position as alpha so I can be for a long time."She saw the worried look on his face. "It's not for another two years. These things take a long time to plan."

"sorrow, you're gonna be the youngest alpha in history. You're only fifteen."

"I know, but it's what he wants." Sorrow looked a Shadowus. "He's the alpha, Shadowus. I can't disobey him." A howl pierced the air. Sorrow looked down. "I gotta go." She turned into a wolf and started to run off.

"Sorrow," Shadowus yelled. Sorrow stopped to look at him with piercing blue-gray eyes. "What is it you're going to?"

"Probably another meeting," she said. "I've had ten of them in the past week."Another howl pierced their ears, this one impatient. Sorrow broke into a run, howling as she ran.
