It was the first day of summer and I lay in the cool grass, the blades tickling my arms staring out at the placid lake. The water was a dark blue and I could hear the water trickling down the waterfall at the end of the lake. I lay my head down on the soft blanket and stared up at the clear blue sky. The sky was almost cloudless there was one lonely cloud that was floating by. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath of the fresh air and I felt the warm summer sun on my bare legs. I gently drifted off to sleep.
When I finally woke up, the sky was turning a dark gray and was filled with dark clouds. I felt the first drop of rain fall on my skin. At first it was a drizzle but then it started to pour. I jumped up wiped the cold rain out of my eyes and tried to quickly gather up my blanket and the rain started coming down harder and I swung my bag over my shoulder and started to run home. I shivered my white cotton blouse started to stick to my skin. I was soaking wet and cold and I could barely see because of the water in my eyes. I wasn't far from my house when I heard the first crack of thunder. It was quiet but I knew there would be more. Running in front of me I saw a figure wearing shorts and a tank top shivering. I looked again and saw she was limping slightly on her left foot. She looked about my age with bright orange hair that looked like it had been very curly before storm but was now dripping wet down her back her arms were sprinkled with freckles.
" Excuse me!" I called,
She turned around and looked at me her cheeks were also sprinkled with freckles and were tinted red she had dark blue eyes the color of an ocean on a stormy day she had reddish brown long eyelashes and round wide eyes. She looked at me and rubbed the water out of her eyes.
" Do you need help?" I asked,
She looked at me and then said,
" My house is on the other side of town an I don't think I can get very far because I think I sprained my ankle."
I wonder how she sprained her ankle maybe she just tripped or she fell, her right knee had a cut and there was another that was bleeding on her arm. The blood looked fresh and was running down part of her arm, so I assumed she had just fallen.
" Follow me." I said,
We started to run up the hill. She was a bit slowed down because of her ankle so I ran down to help her. The rain was now pouring down and there was a bit of thunder we got up the hill to my house and I quickly unlocked the door. Once we were inside we collapsed on the couch panting. I was relieved to feel the soft couch beneath me and I finally felt safe. She was holding her ankle and I noticed a thin bracelet around her ankle it was emerald green and was made out of some kind of stone.
I asked, " What's your name?"
" It's Poppy", She said.
