Summer break. A time of hot weather, lots of swimming, coconuts and palm trees, and hanging out with your friends. For me and my friends, summer break is gonna be the time of our lives. At least thats what Greta says.
"I love you so much," Greta whispers in my ear. She tightens her grip around my shoulders before pulling away.
"I love you too Greta." I roll my eyes at her state of sadness. "You know this isn't actually goodbye right?" I ask with a small smile.
"I know," she whines. "But its still the end of freshman year!"
"Good riddance," Joe mumbles. She walks over to me, arms crossed over her chest. "See you tonight Karsyn." She holds a fist out to me, the only sign of love and friendship she gives. My fist bumps hers and we share a smirk.
...
"You doing anything for the end of summer?" Thomas asks, taking a sip of his coffee.
"I don't think so," I tell him. I take a bite of the eggs he made for breakfast and watch as he reads the news on his phone next to me.
"Why don't you invite your friends over for a pool party?" His eyes stay glued to the phone.
"A pool party?" I squint in confusion. "How would we have a pool party?"
Thomas finally looks up from his phone, only to stare at me as if I've said the dumbest thing ever. "Karsyn," Thomas says trailing off at the end. "Please tell me you've looked at the backyard."
"I don't think I have," I respond. Worry creeps up on me as I stand up from my seat and move towards the back doors. I open them and step out into the warm summer air. "We have a pool?" My eyes widen in shock. I can't believe I didn't know that. I've been living here for almost a year now and I've never even seen the backyard.
"So about that pool party," Thomas says smiling.
...
I walk over to Sherri next and pull her into a hug. "Thanks for showing me around my first day," I tell her. When I first met Sherri, I thought she was just like every high school girl out there. Smiles way to often, and tries too hard to please everyone. After sitting with her and the others at lunch and getting to really know them, I realize that not everyone is as they seem. Sherri has become one of my best friends and someone I can go to with anything.
"Dont mention it. I can't imagine not having you in this group," she says. We smile at each other and hug shortly again before heading off to say goodbye to the others. I hug Leanne, Cassidy, Lihn, and Jennifer, and give Max a side hug.
Before I can say something, a hand taps me on the shoulder. I turn around and gaze up at Damian's emerald green eyes. He's grown a lot in the past six months. His features have become sharper, more like his father's, and he towers over me now. He finds many ways to tease me about it, which I find annoying.
