Lakes and Rivers:

LAKES:

1. Caspian Sea (Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Russia) is the world's largest lake.

2. Michigan-Huron (Canada - United States) Lake Michigan and Lake Huron are hydrologically a single body of water. If counted separately, Huron and Michigan are the third and fourth largest freshwater lakes, respectively.

3. Superior (Canada - United States) is the largest freshwater lake in the world, if Michigan-Huron is counted as two lakes.

4. Victoria (Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya) - The largest lake in Africa; also the second largest freshwater lake in the world if Michigan-Huron is counted as two lakes.

Antarctica: Lake Vostok (Subglacial Lake)

Deepest lake in the world is Baikal Lake in Siberia (Russia). Also, Baikal Lake is the world's largest fresh water lake by volume. It contains nearly 1/5th of world's fresh water.

Largest freshwater lake in India is Wular Lake in Jammu & Kashmir.

Largest saline water lake in India is Lake Chilka in Orissa.

Lake Tana is called as Blue Nile; Lake Victoria is called as White Nile.

RIVERS:

A river can be defined as a stream of water flowing in a particular direction on land. Depending upon the continuity of flow, the rivers can be seasonal or perennial. Rivers carry the surface run off of their catchment areas into lakes or seas.

A large number of smaller rivers carry the water of their catchments into larger rivers. Such smaller rivers are called tributaries of the major rivers and together with the major river into which they flow, they constitute a river system.

4. Chang Jiang (Yangtze) (China) 3,602 mi [fianlly reaches East China Sea]

5. Ob(Russia) 3,459 mi

6. Huang Ho (Yellow) China 2,900 mi

Asia: Yangtze (Chang Jiang) - Located in east-central China.

Africa: Nile - Located in north-east Africa.

South America: Amazon - Located in northern South America.

North America: Missouri - Located in the central USA.

Australia: Murray - Located in South Australia.

Europe: Volga - Located in Russia. (11 cities of Russia are on the banks of Volga including Moscow).
