I watch as my mum's car slowly moves out of the parking lot. My palms are sweaty, mouth quivering and body shaking. It's an instant reaction to her leaving, because he'll come then.
The monster, the evil man, the devil-few of the names I brand him with. But there is one I'll never call him, Father.
He's not my father. My father is dead. My father was handsome, and kind and compassionate. And he loved me, but not the kind of love that the monster promises me, a different kind of love, that leaves a totally different feeling at the pit of my stomach.
There's a knock
He's here
"Open the door Princess, daddy wants to play with you."
No, no no!!!
"You know I have the keys baby, you know you should open it before I do," he states, his voice turning into a growl at the end.
I can't move, I really can't move.
I try to stay calm, my daddy would want me to be calm.
He always says never to let your emotions control you. He always says to take a deep breath and relax.
But I can't relax, I can't breathe, I can't even see past the tears in my eyes.
"Come on Princess. Open up. Daddy loves you," he says rattling the door handle fervently.
No!
He's trying to break in!
I feel it then, surging through me, anger so strong I can't control it. Rising inside me, emanating from within, pushing to the surface, and then tasting it at the tip of my tongue.
And that's when the doors open.
