𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐄 when her parents told her what prom was. And unlike any other young girl, Harper Turner hated the sound of prom. She believed it was a night full of clichés, and she hated clichés. They were too "perfect" for the world they lived in.
Troy Zarba, however, actually liked the sound of prom. No, he didn't like the fact that they'd have to dress formal. He liked that it was a night where he could spend time with their friends, and show off the beautiful person he'd be attending the night with.
But, there was this fear of rejection. That if he asked someone to go with him, and they said no, it would completely ruin him and his self esteem. Harper liked to tell him he was too sensitive, and then say that if anyone rejected him, it was their loss and not his.
It was then that they decided that if it were ever to occur, they needed to have a backup plan. Harper's great idea of a backup plan was to not go at all, but Troy? His plan was a little bit different.
They were ten when they agreed to this. The two bestfriends wrote it on two separate sheets of paper, and then signed both. Harper framed it, and put it on her wall. Troy did the same, and he planned on honoring it if anything went wrong with his original plans.
"I think this is stupid, but Troy loves the plan, so whatever. If we can't find a date before prom, then Troy Zarba and Harper Turner will go together. Harp & Troy <3 "
And just like that, they had made a deal. But, things don't always go well, and deals aren't always honored. How could they when Harper moved away to California a year later, and lost contact with her best friend.
It was sad, and they never saw each other again. Well, they never saw each other in person again. The next time she saw him, she was eighteen and scrolling down her ForYou page. He was, also, eighteen when he saw her on his mom's-friend's-daughter's instagram.
When they did in the past was childish, but Troy never had the intention of going to prom with a girl other than Harper. So, he made the decision of getting her to go to prom with him, despite not talking to each other for seven years. What exactly could go wrong?
