Let Me Explain

I am not the girl you will bring home to your parents. I'm not the girlfriend your friends will envy because of the love our relationship has is like no other. I'm not the girl you'll wake up next to, groggy-eyed and just wanting to hold them a little longer in the warm sheets. I'm not the girl you'll one day go ring shopping for, feeling the butterflies in your stomach like when we first met, just because you want this ring to be absolutely perfect.
I'm convenient. I'm a part-time lover. I'm no end game. I get you off, give you some good memories, some meaningful advice, and then stay alone a long time after we separate. But this is for the best perhaps. I can't ruin you.
You'll have gorgeous kids. Two sons that'll look like marble sculptures of greek gods. They'll break hearts. They'll make mistakes. They'll be your favorite people. You'll be such a proud father. And that's great. They just won't be any part of me.
So hold me close for now. Kiss my forehead and tell me you love me. Arrange a future for us and set your goals high. I'll always be proud of you. I'll always love you. I'm just not the girl you'll have forever. And that's okay.
