Ally's POV:
"Luke! You're missing all the notes." I told him.
"It's not my fault. I can play expert in real life but not in a video game."
It was a lazy Friday night so I invited Luke and his friends over to hang out. We all ended up playing Band Hero and surprisingly Luke wasn't very good. It was funny watching him struggle since he's naturally a really good guitar player.
"Oh come on Luke. You can do better than that." Michael told him as he struggled through the solo from Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard.
"My little brother can do better than that." Ashton said.
"Guys! It's harder than it looks!" Luke fought back.
I had to admit, watching Luke look all frustrated was kind of cute. He kept pouting and his dimples would come out every so often. I began to realize how often I would just sit back and admire Luke.We have been best friends since like Kindergarten and recently I've admitted to myself that I actually have a crush on him. I would like to tell him how I feel but I'm literally terrified because if he doesn't feel the same way, that could ruin everything. Plus now wouldn't even be a good time because he has a girlfriend named Jess. But she's a total bitch. She's really rude to me but only when Luke isn't around. And she flirts with other guys when he isn't around. I try to tell him about things she does, but he never really believes me. It's really frustrating because I know I could treat him so much better than her. Luke finished up the song before giving the guitar to Calum.
"Dude, I'm kicking you off the guitar." Calum said laughing. Luke just glared at him in return.
"I'm getting on drums this time!" Ashton volunteered.
Luke sat down on the sofa next to me.
"Aww it's okay. You'll do better next time." I reassured him.
"Yeah whatever." He said rolling his eyes while a small smile spread across his face.
Calum and Ashton began playing Sugar, We're Going Down by Fall Out Boy, one of my favorites.
"Really? If I knew you were gonna pick this song, I would have played." I told them.
"Too bad." Calum said turning around and sticking his tongue out at me.Luke's phone started ringing. He looked at it for a bit as if he was mentally deciding on whether or not to answer.
"Man, if it's Jess, just let it go to voicemail." Michael told him.
I could tell that the guys weren't a big fan of Jess either which gave Luke more of a reason to break up with her. But she had him wrapped around her finger.
"It's okay. I'll just take this in the other room." He said.
"Hey babe. What's up?" He said walking upstairs. His voice faded as he got further away so I couldn't hear what she might be complaining about this time.
"You know, I think you're the only one who can fix this." Michael said to me.
"Fix what?" I questioned him.
"That thing they call a relationship." He gestured to where Luke went.
"Why would I even want to get in the middle of that?"
"Because you like him?"
"What? No! Where did you get that from?"
"I see the way you always look at him. Plus you guys have known each other longer than me and the guys have known him. It just makes sense."I thought about trying to convince Michael that I don't have a crush on Luke, but I just gave in.
"It's really that obvious?" I asked.
"To me it is. I don't know if these two knuckleheads have noticed or not."
"You know we can hear you!" Ashton said. Michael shook his head in return.
"But seriously, tell him how you feel. We never see him naturally happy around Jess like he is with you and that could really mean something. Give it a try."
Michael's words really gave me some motivation. Maybe I should tell him. I can't keep thinking what if. A part of me was still really scared though.
"Thanks Michael. I think I'm gonna try." I smiled.
I got off the sofa and walked upstairs to where I saw Luke still talking on the phone. His back facing me.
"Jess, please. We can work this out. You're my girlfriend, not Ally." He said.
I took a step back. That hurt a little. Even though I wasn't his girlfriend, he was basically saying that he was putting her over me.
"Jess...Jess come on." He said right before the line disconnected.
He ran his hands through his hair before turning around to face me.
"Ally. How much of that did you hear?" He asked.
I fought with myself mentally whether I should be mad at him or not. But no matter how much I tried, I could never stay mad at him.
"Enough. I came up here to make sure you were okay." I told him.
"I don't know. She broke up with me. She was mad because she thinks you and I are too close."
"Yeah I figured when you said that I wasn't your girlfriend."
"I didn't mean that in a bad way. It's just-"
"I get it Luke. Your girlfriend comes first. It's fine." I turned around and walked back downstairs to living room.
"Ally." Luke called after me but I just ignored him and sat down next to Calum. Michael and Ashton were just finishing up a song."Okay my turn! But I think I wanna sing this time." I said.
I just thought of a good song to sing that could possibly help get my feelings out to Luke. And it would be a lot easier than just telling him.
"Okay I'll play the guitar for you." Luke volunteered.
"Oh no here we go again." Ashton said.
"It's cool guys. It's an easier song to play anyways." I told them.
I chose the song and it came up on the screen as we began to play.
"Really Ally? Taylor Swift?" Luke asked.
"Hey! Taylor Swift is amazing! Good choice Ally." Michael said.
I felt a lump in my throat before I started singing but it slowly went away as I began."You're on the phone with your girlfriend. She's upset. She's going off about something that you said. Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do."
"I'm in my room. It's a typical Tuesday night. I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like and she'll never know your story like I do."
"But she wears short skirts, I wear tshirts. She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time."
"If you could see that I'm the one who understands you. Been here all along so why can't you see you belong with me. You belong with me."
"Walking the streets with you and your worn out jeans, I can't help thinking this how it ought to be. Laughing on a park bench thinking to myself, hey isn't this easy. And you've got a smile that could light up this whole town. I haven't seen it in a while since she brought you down. You say you're fine, I know you better than that. Hey whatcha doing with a girl like that."
I could see Luke taking glances at me every so often as I sang. He was starting to look kind of concerned."But she wears high heels, I wear sneakers. She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time."
"If you could see that I'm the one who understands you. Been here all along so why can't you see you belong with me. Standing by and waiting at your back door. All this time, how could you not know baby, you belong with me."
"Oh I remember you driving to my house in the middle of the night. I'm the one who makes you laugh when you know you're about to cry. I know your favorite songs and you tell me about your dreams. Think I know where you belong. Think I know it's with me."
"Can't you see that I'm the one who understands you. Been here all along so why can't you see you belong with me. Standing by and waiting at your back door. All this time how could you not know baby, you belong with me. You belong with me."
"Have you ever thought just maybe, you belong with me, you belong with me."
I finished the song and the other guys cheered me on.
"Yeah Ally!" Michael cheered.
"And nice job Luke. You could actually keep up on that one." Calum said.
Luke let out a small smile but I could tell that he was still keeping his eyes on me.It started getting late so the guys decided they would head back to their places but Luke stayed behind. He helped me clean up the food and put away all the games. We were finally finished and we both just plopped down on the couch.
"So, um...nice song selection." He said looking at me intently.
"Uh, thanks." I said smiling but not making eye contact with him. I haven't looked him in the eyes since I was talking to him upstairs because I know I'd probably break down if I did.
"Ally, will you look at me?" He asked.
"I don't know if I can."
"Fine. I'll just talk then. Was that song supposed to mean something? Were you trying to maybe, tell me something by singing it?" He asked.
I just stayed quiet for the moment not really knowing what to say.
"Ally, please say something."
I took a deep breath before I let everything out. I turned to face him.
"Okay. Yes Luke. Yes, that song meant something. It meant something that I've been trying to say for a few months now but I've been too freaked out to say anything."
"Well whatever you wanna say, I'm all ears." He said.
I ran my hands through my hair nervously."I like you Luke. I like you so much and it's been killing me seeing you with Jess because she treated you so bad and you didn't even see it but I did. It hurts me because I know you deserve someone so much better than her and I-"
I was cut off by Luke's lips on mine. He ran his hand through my hair as our lips moved in sync. I could feel the fireworks going off everywhere. He wasn't forceful with the kiss, but slow and passionate. Like he really meant it.
He pulled away and I looked into his bright blue eyes which looked more lively than ever.
"I deserve someone like you." He told me.
I nodded and leaned back in to kiss him again. I couldn't help but smile through it because I've wanted this for so long. We pulled away and spent the rest of the night cuddling and watching movies. I was happier than ever.
