I am in my office.
There really isn't much more to it than that. The light is off, school closed for the night. My sorry excuse for a family all gone. But it doesn't matter. I had my little room. But at that moment there came a knock on the door. My confusion would have been evident to even someone who couldn't read my empty face.
I walk silently to the door and listen. Maybe it was just my imagination.
I began to walk back to the bed/couch thing I had rigged in the room. But then another knock came. This time more insistent. I walked back to the door, and gently crack it open. A single electric blue eye was staring back at me. "Who the Hell are you?" I asked quietly. I opened the door slightly. It was the girl from that morning. Why was she still here? Didn't She know the school was locked and secured?
"Are you going to let me in or not?" she asked. She had some nerve to ask me to enter my home when I didn't even know her name.
"You are asking me to let a total stranger into my home.... Why would I do that?" I said, looking away. "I don't know who you are, why you want to know me, or basically anything. Why would I trust you?"
"Because I wanna come in."
"You are attempting to blackmail me, and attempting to gain entry into the closest thing to a home I have." I said incredulously. "What in the gods' green earth possessed you to think that is ok?"
"This is home. I the house I reside at is no home. You are in my home." She replied, insulted. "You are invading my home. It;s only fair that I do the same."
At this I stared incredulously. I couldn't believe the gall this girly possessed.
But then again, I was in my little room most of the time. She could wander these dark and empty halls at night. I would never know.
The air chilled as I chided myself for my ignorance. "This is my only place. The only place I have to go. Do not take this as an open invitation to barge in whenever you want." I replied, stepping to the side and opening the door slightly.
"Thank you." She said breathlessly as she stepped in. I felt the breeze she brought with her. I had never let anyone but Icarus in. The tension was palpable. I had lost all my skills in social situations, and stood there on edge. "Why stay here?"
"It's all I know. I don't have a home, besides this place." I said quietly.
"Who are you really?"
"A nobody."
"You have some story. I can sense it." She stepped closer, and I felt my skin prickle with a light energy. "Why do you hide? You are stronger than any enemy your could have."
"You overestimate me. I'm just me. No powers, no friends, and no stories. I'm just me."
"You discredit yourself. You are afraid. Both of what you can do, and what you can't. Stop being afraid and be you. I won't hurt you." She said.
"I find that hard to believe. Everyone will hurt me. I just can't find the one worth hurting for."
"You will someday. Promise." And with that, she walked out the door.
That girl. There was something about her. She sensed things that almost no one else could. Even Icarus, who knew exactly who I was, could only just glimse what has been hidden behind my eyes.
This girl could be my closest ally or worst enemy. All I know is that our paths were intertwined.
