On the side: video for Spun
xxThe sun shined down, creating heat waves that rolled uncomforatbly over the shoulders of the hundreds of teens standing on the lawn. Sweat made the clothing stick to the backs of all the fans as they waved their hands in front of their faces to try and create a small breeze that could cool them down. My eyes squinted as i pulled my sunglasses out of my hair, and perched them on my nose. I reached back to try and gather my chocolate waves into a high ponytail, while smiling as my group of friends burst into laughter at the story Rox was telling.
"Next thing you know, Jovie is on the ground, a stream of chocolate falling into her eyes!" My blonde friend, Rox, exclaimed. My cheeks reddened in a quick blush. I looked at the ground in embarrassment, as i drilled the toe of my used-to-be-white sneaker into the dirt. A rough hand slapped my back and I quickly turned my head to the direction of the arm, seeing Duke next to me, his white smile attempting to blind my Rayban Clubmaster's.
"Jovie, that's hilarious! What were you thinking? Trying to carry a functioning chocolate fountain!" He practically shouted, trying to be heard over the croud of teenagers surrounding us.
I grinned at him. "Do you really expect anything different from me? The party was about to start and I wanted that chocolate fountain for myself! I was gonna just hole up in my room with it and my stash of marshmellows!"
He through his head back in laughter, my grin growing wider. I'd known Duke for practically my whole life, I knew I shouldn't have expected anything different from my best friend as an embarrassing story was told about me. He enjoyed making fun of me 24/7, but he was also the greatest best friend ever, since I'm standing in the audience, about to see one of my favourite bands of all time, Grouplove. For my birthday, he decided to make my music festival dream come true, by buying us tickets to fly out to California and attend the Coachella music festival. I quickly checked my watch, growing impatient, as we still had about twenty minutes until they came out on stage.
"Relax Jovie, they'll come on soon. What song are you most excited about?" Rox questioned as she poked my stomach repeatedly.
"Seriously Rox, you think I can choose a favorite song?" I asked as she grinned cheekily at me. "Well... Ways to Go and Shark Attack should be really awesome, but they gotta play Spun, I'll hunt them down if they don't!" My eyes had widened into large saucers as I gave my answer.
"Who comes on after Grouplove?" Duke asked me while trying to pull the schedule up on his phone.
I got on my tiptoes and put my face right in front of his, blocking his view of his phone, while grinning really widely. "I heard it was the Shins, from this group of teens in line at the merch table!" I watched Duke's face light up in excitement, I knew he loved that band, so while he was hunting for a good food truck, I had quickly boughten him a t-shirt I was saving for Christmas.
"Seriously, I'm so stoked for that." Duke blurted.
"Tomorrow is my favorite day, we get to see Foo Fighters and Weezer!" Rox exclaimed jumping up in down. Her short, bleach blonde pixie cut was shaking with her jumps. Rox was probably the perfect best girl friend, we met my freshmen year because one of Duke's teammates had a huge crush on her, and wanted my help to set them up. We easily bonded over our love for indie music and nerdy movies.
"You got me there, Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters is probably the best human being in this generation," I said, shaking my head in agreement with her. Duke made a grunting noise, and I quickly turned to see what was up, and saw him make a face, "other than you, of course Duke!"
He smiled at me and wrapped a tan, muscular arm around my waist to give me a quick side hug. "I'm loving this t-shirt Jovie, did you do that yourself? You're such an artist," Duke mockingly commented.
