Estarossa Stories
Inherited Darkness
Estarossa's P.O.V.
My name is Estarossa Douman.
I am a Major of the NOL, particularly of the 4th Magic Division all thanks to the 'gift' I possess. To put it bluntly, I am what others call a miracle. The public and most of the world know me as the Second Coming of Platinum Alchemist. It's all thanks to my ability to perform alchemy to which some say it is similar to one of the Six Heroes many know as Platinum the Trinity. That and my out of place hair color.
To most who don't hate me, I'm considered a hero since I played a significant part in the Ikaruga War. However, to others, they think I'm one lucky bastard. But in actuality, I couldn't give a shit. No, that's not correct. The views of the people, while they do not compare to my close ones, have an impact on me. It's their opinion on me that allowed me to get this far. So, I guess my job is my way of showing thanks. Moving on from that...
At this current moment, I was assigned to retrieve Jin Kisaragi after he suddenly went rogue after learning of the Reaper's location. Not surprising, after all...No, there is no need to wonder off about that. The past doesn't excuse this stupidity. Moving on, I have teamed up with a young woman named Noel Vermillion, a First Lieutenant of the 4th Division, to retrieve Jin.
We're riding in an aircraft under the N.O.L. in an unusual silence. It wouldn't be a problem had this been our first mission or encounter with each other. But it isn't. We met back in Military Academy, the school used for training before graduating and becoming a member of the N.O.L. Noel and I were in the same class and grade together a few years back. It was through her I made friends like Tsubaki Izayoi, Makoto Nanaya, and some others. So, for us to stand and not communicate was certainly awkward. Especially when we are-
"Major Glassfille, we're getting a message from command," Noel said waiting for me to give the order to answer it. It certainly cut me off my trail of thoughts. Looking away from the window, I turned to Noel with my blonde hair casually covering my eyes. "I see. Well go ahead and answer it, Lieutenant." I responded to her. She nodded her head and answered the call.
"Lieutenant Vermillion, you sound surprised. Is Major Glassfille with you?" A voice of authority rung out. It was the Commander.
"I'm present sir," I stated nonchalantly, almost deadpanning at the start of the call.
"Ok, now debrief me of your current status."
"We are currently investigating the whereabouts of Major Jin Kisaragi, who is headed towards Kagutsuchi. If possible, we are to detain the subject and bring him back to the headquarters, sir." Noel explained our position to our superior.
"Alright. Remember you two, only detain the subject if you think it's possible. Also, the intelligence department will be joining the investigation." Our Superior stated catching my and Noel's attention.
"The intelligence department, sir?" Noel replied to a little bit confused and shocked.
"His name is Hazama. According to intelligence, he should be in town already." Our superior confirmed. My eyes widened in brief surprise at the mention of Hazama as Noel whispered something to herself.
"Hazama...". Her expression suddenly seems a little down for some reason. This didn't go unnoticed by me, but I didn't not push.
'Can't exactly blame her...Hazama is a tedious prick to deal with at times.' I thought to myself. I decided to sit on the railings and continue to listen to the commander, which earned a look from Noel that appeared to be...disappointment? I wasn't exactly sure, but I only shrugged in response before I continued to listen.
"Also, regarding Ragna the Bloodedge..." The commander's voice was starting to break up alarming me and catching Noel off guard.
"Commander, you're breaking up. Can you repeat that one more time?" Noel asked, hoping to hear the commander's last order. I leaned in as if moving closer would somehow make the voice much clearer despite the interrupting static getting louder.
"If you see Ragna the Bloodedge, do not engage the subject. You are to observe him. I repeat do NOT engage the subject." The call was suddenly cut off.
"I-? Why did it cut off?" I was appalled at what happened to say the least. Everything else in the vicinity was working, so why did the call get affected? Was it ars magus of sorts? Noel also partook the same reaction I did and gave me a look of worry.
"I don't know either. It won't reconnect, what should I do?" She panicked. I shook off my confused expression and sighed. Time to take charge I suppose. I got off the railing so I can stand in front of Noel Vermillion at my full height. I crossed my arms and gave Noel a reassuring looks matched with a small smile.
"You're such a worrywart sometimes you know Noel. Look it doesn't matter that call ended prematurely. All we have to do is find Jin and bring him back. That is our mission." I remarked, hopefully trying to help calm her nerves. Luckily it seemed to work as she lets out a small breath.
"Right, sorry about that." Noel started to look a little bit calmer, even easing my nerves too. I chuckled a bit and stretched a bit in place.
"Lieutenant Vermillion, Major Glassfille we will be arriving at Kagutsuchi Port #5 momentarily! Please prepare for landing." One of the crew members announced. I turned around fully and fixed my clothes. Tightening my waistband, sorting the fingers of my glove by removing and putting them back on, and putting on the hood of my uniform, I felt ready.
Once I was done, I tilted my head at my partner. "Alright then, let's go Noel."
"Right!" She nodded. And just that like, we were off!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
