it's interesting how
i have a song
for every moment in my life
it's not special
but it's something i value

sometimes

i replay a song
and i get reminded
of the happy times
times i'd return to
that i'd trade anything for

other times

even the happiest song
sounds bitter
to my ears
moves me to tears
to cry out in the dark

there was a song
that i've loved
the moment was euphoric
and so was the song

things changed
i changed
times changed
people changed

it was a song filled with hope
and promises

it now is
a song
that brings me
pain and memories
but now
without the regret

i drift on the waters of a sea
on a hot summer
the heat pierces through my skin
the few cotton rolls in the sky
shifts and fades
lazily
