Berry loved Christmas, it was his favorite time of the year. No, his family didn't celebrate, but all the Christmas lights hung around his neighborhood cheered him up. There was one house he loved to watch, they always did it up real nice so that the light shimmered and twinkled brighter than everyone else's. This year though, he didn't know what to expect, it was already December 14 and there was not one light shining. The house seemed to be dead and empty, but he knew it wasn't. Three months ago there had been a U-Haul truck there, moving things out. And just a week later there was another one moving things in. He wished the prior family knew how much he loved there display, but he would have never had the guts to compliment them. He had always been a shy boy, never one for talking, and never one for being noticed. At school he was the outcast, isolated from everyone. He didn't know why, maybe cause of his style, maybe cause of his height, or maybe cause of his entire appearance. He never thought he looked bad, but others were always shocked by his appearance. He had a large curly mass of bright white hair, and two different colored eyes: one a bright crystal blue, and one a mossy looking green. His grandmother had always said it meant that he had an inner turmoil to face, but within the last few months he could not have felt more calm and self-assured. It was a long time coming, and he had no idea what had brought it on, but he couldn't have been more thankful. The last few years had been the hardest for him, and he had been especially secluded. He had tried to commit suicide a few times before, but it had never seemed to work, maybe he subconsciously didn't want to die, or maybe he just wasn't good enough, but right now he would prefer not to reminisce. Right now he would do something for others, as others had done something for him. After he had finished his charity, he went back home, though it was more of just a house with nice people in it. He lived with an elderly couple that let him rent a room in return for help around the house and a monthly payment of $150. They were pretty nice, and he got along with them well, but he never felt at home there. Once he had gotten out of foster care this was the first place he went, to move in with them. He had met them earlier through his foster mother's friend, and heard they were looking for live in help. He immediately offered his services, but they had been very skittish. Within the met few months before his birthday they had gotten to know one another better, and they had conceded to allowing him to move in under the signed guidelines and rules. It was now two years later, and he could tell they were hinting at him to move out. They had been talking about their granddaughter coming to live with them, and where she would sleep- the room he was currently occupying. It was not that there weren't enough rooms, there were three other guest rooms hardly ever filled, but it was that it was highly inappropriate having a man of his age around their sixteen year old granddaughter. He completely understood, he just didn't know where he was going to sleep. He was currently about to start his senior year in college by credit, though a junior in college by year, but that was not the problem as he was attending the local university on a full scholarship. The problem was he had no time to work and therefore between all of his little expenses piling up, he hardly had enough money or could make enough money to afford living on his own. Three days later they gave him his notice. They were very apologetic about it, but he had one month to leave. "You had to have seen it coming Berry, we tried to drop hints but you left us no choice" After the woman said this she got a hard glare from her husband, but she paid it no mind. "We wish you well son, good luck" The husband said, and then they left the room. He really had no idea what he was going to do, he now had twenty-seven days to move out, and he was seriously afraid he would have to room with someone on craigslist. But right now he decided he was going to ignore it, he had some serious studying to do for his final tomorrow and he was going to the library to do it. His only problem now was finding his keys. Berry was currently walking down the drive way toward his car parked on the side of the road. Rather than looking up and paying attention to where he was going, he had his head down with his hands in his book bag looking for his elusive keys to the 1995 Toyota Camry. He hadn't seen it coming, nor had the runner, but they both felt it as they collided and the wind was knocked out of Berry. Luckily though the runner had fast reflexes and within a second had his arms wrapped around Berry as he felt himself collide with the car behind him. Berry could feel the man grunt with the collide and hastily flew out of his arms to apologize. He should have been looking where he was going. "I am soooo sorry," The runner didn't respond. "Are you okay?" The man slowly lifted himself off the car, "Did you get hurt?" he asked as he finally looked up. There was a split second that lasted for ages as their eyes met. "Mate." They both whispered, but only one knew what he was talking about.
