Chapter Two: My Trip Couldn't Have Gotten Worse

Kaede

Zed had woken up early in the morning, shaking me awake, leaning over my lifeless looking form. "Hey," He whispered, shaking my shoulder, "Wake up. You're coming to get food with us today. Get up."

I grumbled out a response, shrugging Zed's hand off my shoulder, putting the dusty sheets over my body. "It's so...early..."

"I know that," I felt the bed dip as Zed sat down next to me, "But we need to get to Mr. Croide's before the big crowds come in." He rested his chin on my bicep, moving the sheets out of my face and blowing in my ear.

A groan left my lips as I shook my head, pressing my hand against my ear and shoving a snickering Zed off my bed.

"Dude," I whined, rubbing at the side of my head as I sat up, grimacing. "That's so weird, Z."

He laughed, standing up and stretching, tossing me a change of clothes. "Go get dressed. Like I said, me, you, and Quinn are going above ground today, so you at least need to change out of your street rat clothes." Zed ignored my offended expression and started making his bed. "Croide isn't very fond of people from the Underground in general, so you have to look, in Mr. Croide's words, civilized."

I clutched the clean clothes, groaning my way to the bathroom.

"And make sure to wash your hair!" I heard Zed shout as I closed the bathroom door, turning on the light. A cockroach scurried to get under the closed door, but I crushed it under my heel, immediately taking off my sock and hurrying to get undressed before everybody else used up the hot water.

I hopped into the shower, picking up my empty bottle of shampoo and grumbling under my breath about the twins. My eyes drifted over to Zed's many bottles of hair products.

He wouldn't mind if I just... I snagged up a sea foam scented shampoo, glancing around like someone would be watching me, before I poured a generous amount of the shampoo onto my palm.

I scrubbed the shampoo deep into my scalp, sighing at the feeling of being clean. The smell wafted through the shower and the scent made me sigh happily. After letting the shampoo set for a few minutes, I rinsed out my hair and grabbed the ocean breeze scented conditioner, getting out from under the water stream and starting to repeat the same actions I did with the shampoo. I grabbed the Maken Flower body wash, then my loofa, and started getting down to business.

After a good thirty minutes I stepped out of the shower, roughly drying myself off, shaking out the water in my hair.

I stepped out of the bathroom in what seemed to be Zed's clothes and not mine. The albino boy looked up from the book he was reading, smiling at my appearance.

"Alright, now that you're done-" Zed cut himself off and pulled me by the ear, sniffing my hair. "Did you use my shampoo?"

My lips pursed, "Would you believe me if I said no?"

He sighed and pushed me towards the bathroom again, "Dry your hair with the blow dryer, you look like a wet mop."

"But I don't know how to use the blow dryer thing!" I huffed, slumping against the bathroom counter, pouting at Zed. The boy sighed, checking the time and walking into the bathroom, quickly grabbing the blow dryer.

Our room door opened as Zed continued to blow dry my half wet hair. A short boy entered looking left and right before his eyes landed on me and Zed. He waddled over and stood timidly at the doorway.
