Twilight fluttered her eyes open to an empty room, her friends had seemingly woken early and left her to sleep in. She yawned and grabbed the journal with her wing leaving the room and walking towards the throne room, her hooves stopped when hearing the excitable squeal only Pinkie Pie could do.
She quickly followed the growing voices and found all of them putting up decorations, Cadence stood in the centre overseeing them.

"Mornin' Twi."

All eyes flew to her as a chorus of her name called out making her smile,
"How are the preparations going?"

Cadence looked at the banner covered in colour.

"Pretty well so far, any luck with the journal so far?"
"Not yet, I just can't seem to figure out what he's trying to tell me."

Rarity hummed softly before galloping over to Twilight,
"Perhaps Princess Celestia could help? Or maybe even Princess Luna although maybe it would be easier for Discord to try..."

Fluttershy perked up at the sound of his name not expecting to have eyes all around on her, she whimpered.
"I-I guess I could ask him...?"
Twilight grinned before joining in helping with the decorations before the princesses arrived from Canterlot.

Eventually, all the decorations where complete and all that was needed was new gowns for the ball and to open the journals, at the mere thought the Princesses walked into the hall with Celestia noticing how wonderful it all looked and thanking them all for their hard work.
Before Twilight could say anything Discord appeared tutting.

"No invitation for moi?"
"Discord!"
Fluttershy flew up to him giving him a hug to which he quickly returned, she smiled before tilting her head.

"And what do you mean no invitation? I sent one last night, did the postpony not find you?"
Discord suddenly chuckled,

"Ohhhh so that's why he was trying to catch my attention by waving so much, I thought he was doing a new pony dance!"

Twilight coughed and held up the locked journal.
"Discord I don't mean to be rude but could you perhaps use your magic to unlock this journal?"

"Trying to learn the secrets of your ponyhood sweetheart huh?"

The girls giggled while a furious blush covered her cheeks, she refused and after a small chuckle from Discord, he clicked his claw and made glasses appear on his face only to find the journal still locked shut.
Every pony looked surprised at the very least that the journal didn't open, he tried again hearing him click multiple times before handing it back perplexed.

"Thank you Discord for trying."

Pinkie peeped, "Is it really possible for Starswirl to block even Discord's magic? But he's the Lord of Chaos, LORD OF CHAOS!"

Celestia have a short nod.
"He was the most powerful unicorn to live."

Twilight shot her head up to Celestia about to question only for a horn to be blown nearby and an announcement that ponies where requesting an audience with the princesses to solve matters for the ball, before Twilight could even think of sneaking away Celestia informed her that it would be beneficial for her to join them and experience it.
So they went down the long line of demands and requests from Crystal bouquets to arguments about what would be better.

Even Shining Armor felt his eyes flutter at some moments, his head gently bobbing mid-air.
This made Twilight chuckle a little making all eyes turn on her and she looked down embarrassed while Cadence answered the crystal pony kindly and before long they managed to get a few minutes alone.

"Celestia, what did you mean before?"
"Well Twilight, Starswirl was one of the most powerful unicorns I can remember. He was our mentor."

The mane 6 asked questions while Twilight stared at the journals, Celestia nodded and put her hoof on the table.
