Uphill Battle

Birthday blunder

Emma woke up excited to celebrate her 14th birthday, this was going to be the first year she was allowed to go out, and she couldn't be happier.. or so she thought- "Happy Birthday Em!" Amberley ran up to Emma and gave her a hug "thank you Amber", hesitantly returning the hug.. the two had been through a lot together and had become quite inseparable ever since their older Sisters left home. Emma heard loud footsteps coming towards her room, she braced herself in case her mother was in another one of her Mood swings, "Happy Birthday Emma" her Mum muttered quietly. "Your present's are on the table, once you open them we're going to the hardware store.. I need some new gloves for the garden" Emma nodded, despite being disappointed this was turning about slightly better than her other Birthdays.. she walked out of her room to see 3 wrapped gifts on the table, "Thank you!" She Called out to her Mother, "you're welcome" Emma wasn't too bothered whether she had presents or not but she was excited since this was the first year Her family had tried to celebrate.

A few hours later..

Emma decided to come along to the store with her Mum.. although finding it boring she didn't want to say anything to set her Mum off so she kept her mouth quiet, as they headed towards the checkout her mum switched the barcodes to make the price cheaper she wanted to scream but her Mother gave her the look that she knew if she said anything, she'd be dead.
"Ma'am this product isn't going through would you like me to get you another one?" The male cashier asked, "it's the wrong barcode!" Emma accidentally blurted out.. once she realised what she had done she covered her mouth with her hands. Her mother, Cyan, laughed nervously "would you excuse us for a moment?" She yanked Emma's hand and once they were out of the store she grabbed her collar, "What the hell is wrong with you?!?! You're just trying to act like a Bigger R*tard then usual!" Emma felt the tears sting her eyes but resolved to wiping them away "Don't feel sorry for yourself! Its all your fault to begin with" Cyan screamed and Shoved Emma back into her car, stay in here until I get back".
