"So beautiful" -I said looking at the sunset whilst I sat in the tip of the roof- Even though my mind was swarmed by all the problems I was having, I decided to take a moment for myself and admire the incredible sky of that cold night of October, from a moment to another i felt a push and the feeling of vertigo filled all my body, soul and mind, I thought that maybe my time of judgment had come, that God or any omnipotent deity had decided to claim my soul and judge me in the courts of heaven or even the damned hell, the moment my body collided with the ground a pair of hands started waking me up and I realized it was my sister Mace that woke me up from that bad dream or relatively bad dream.
"Oi, bubblehead, you alright?" She said with a slight tone of concern... "Ace?!" She shouted at the view of me apparently not waking up even though I heard her first 'warning'.
I scratched my eyes while I was yawning "O-oh, yeah, I'm alright, it was just a bad dream you dummy, don't worry about it".
Wow, what time is it? I thought. I checked the clock besides my bed and saw that it said '7 PM', the moment I realized what time it was I got up and started slapping my sister in the neck.
"OUCH! Where did that come from?" She said in an incredulous tone.
She really expected a different outcome by not letting me sleep "What do you want? Why did you wake me up?" I said while I expressed an annoyed face.
"Do you remember we live alone and you're supposed to take care of me and feed me?" She said in a know-it-all voice.
"Can't you just use Postmates or something? You have a work, use your bloody money, you don't even pay house services or anything so you can't you complain, you twat".
Dear reader, I'll explain some stuff right here. Hello my name is Ace Voltaire, yeah, just Ace and the annoying girl with whom I've had a conversation for the past couple of minutes is my sister, Mazikeen, our parents disappeared when I had 12 and Mace had 8, they were middle class workers... Or so I thought. Their disappearance occurred in July 2nd of 2013 while we were at Copacabana in some kind of vacations, in the end the police declared them death and in their last will they left me with a luxurious apartment in Boston and a big sum of money, it was weirder than a bloody clown because we never had any luxuries, we were pretty average, having normal toys and consoles, not the latest or anything. I've been thinking about their disappearance a lot and a whole bunch of questions burst through my mind but since i couldn't answer any of them I just pushed to the back of my head and didn't gave them any thought since I had to take care of Mazikeen (Mace's full name).
"But I don't want to use communication magic!"
Hold up a minute, Mace just mentioned communication magic? MAGIC? No, Nope, not a chance in bloody hell, this can't be happening, I bet she's just talking nonsense, "Oi, stop spouting stupid stuff, Mace, you're not a kid anymore".
"What the heck are you even talking about, Ace? You study the theory and methodology of magic at the damned Harvard, that dream burnt your coconut head or something? Forget about it, you know you're supposed to go on a date with Oriana, right?"
That name, that damned name, if everything that's happening it's real, I'm in an alternate world and that basic bitc... oops, that annoying girl is still my girlfriend.
"Tell her I'm busy and anyways I'm not in the mood to go out, now that you woke me the hell up, I'll do something useful and go to the library for a bit" I exited my room without saying a word and I started to walk through the halls of the apartment whilst I admired the paintings of my predecessors and touched the walls with my hand to check if everything was real, in the moment I reached the door to the library and in the moment I opened it and the bookshelves were in my sight, something barmy caught my eye and made start looking through the wide windows that surrounded the room and people were flying with some kind of circles under then, they were similar to runes, a feeling of fear and intrigue filled my whole body and made my back shiver and my mind was in DEFCON 4, red alarms everywhere and a lot of questions without any answers and with every look I gave through that window even more questions popped up.
I came to my senses and started looking for books related to magic, it's functionality, origins, etc. Hours passed by and I still had a never ending pile of books even after reading dozens of them, even hundreds.
Little taps at the door could be heard so I kind of yelled "Come in!", Mace entered the room with a grin on her face and a platter with a glass filled with black liquid.
"Hey, I didn't know you were a bookworm" She said while leaving the platter in one of the few free spaces left in the table full of scriptures of big books, "Anywho, I come with peace offerings since I woke you up just to maybe annoy you a little up" She laughed about it and tried to ruffle my hair a little bit.
"Thanks, twat" I said with my best cheshire smile and then rolling my eyes at her tease.
"You've been here for about seven hours so here's pizza and some coke" We hugged and I told her to go to bed since it was 2 in the morning.
Now that I think of it, Mazikeen Voltaire, the heartless queen, the demon incarnate, just brought me food and smiled by her own will? Alright, so this IS a different world, wow, I am amazed, stoic if you want to dramatize it a little bit.
Since seven hours had passed by and it was pretty late, I decided to take a bath, sober up from a night full of books and take some air, I changed my clothes for a black t-shirt, a 55DSL hoodie and some dark ripped jeans, then I walked towards Mace's room.
"I'm going for a walk, don't wait for me" I whispered, then I kissed her forehead and since she was the embodiment of a bloody rock she muffled "Mhm" and kept snoring.
Now it's time to discover why this madness happened.
