It was a scorching summer afternoon. Initially, you and Dazai had planned to bring Shuuji to the beach but the weather was so hot that you protested against the idea in fear of your son possibly getting a heatstroke. In the end, the two of you decided to stay indoors for the day.
You were sitting on the couch with your husband's head rested on your lap. Your son was napping in his room so the house was so peacefully quiet. Such serenity in your household was rare as most of the time it is filled with either the boisterous laughter or the deafening cries of your son.
You released a content sigh as you lovingly played with your husband's hair while he was invested in finishing a novel he was reading. You raked your fingers through Dazai's soft brown locks, savoring the soothing sensation that follows with the action. All of a sudden, you spotted a glimmer in the mass of curly brown hair. You pushed through the strands of hair to find a single grey hair that was hiding among all the brown tresses.
Carefully, you grabbed it between your index finger and thumb and gave a strong tug. Your husband winced in pain as you pulled the strand of hair from his head. Dazai's hand immediately flew to his head and he tilted his head up to look at you with eyebrows furrowed in confusion, his novel completely forgotten.
"Why did you pull my hair, (Y/N)?" he asked with a pout.
"Look what I found, Osamu." You showed him the grey strand of hair between your fingers. "Seems like you're getting old."
Dazai's eyes instantly went wide at the sight of the grey hair and he shot up onto his feet in panic. The novel he was holding had fallen to the floor but he paid no attention towards it as his hands quickly ran through his hair as though he could see his head and find more grey hairs.
"Oh no... NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!" he cried, gripping his brown locks tightly in his hands. "This can't be!"
You couldn't help but let out a chuckle at your husband's overreaction. "Calm down, Osamu."
"CALM DOWN?! CALM DOWN?! I CAN'T CALM DOWN, (Y/N)!" he panicked as he paced around the living room. "I'm getting old and before Shuuji is even old enough to ride a bike, I'll have already gotten old enough to be his grandfather and you wouldn't want an old man like me as your husband anymore!"
Rolling your eyes, you got off the couch and caught your husband in place, stopping his frantic pacing. You grabbed Dazai's face in your hands, squishing his cheeks so that his lips were puckered like a baby duck's.
"Osamu, calm down!" you exclaimed.
When you felt his body relax, you let out a sigh and gave him an endearing smile. "Osamu, listen, you're overreacting, it's just one grey hair. You're not going to become and old grandpa before Shuuji can learn to ride a bike."
He blinks at you, his face still squished in your hands.
"And even if you are, I'll be the grandma who will stay by your side and reminisce about nostalgic stories of our youth." you smiled and placed a soft kiss on his lips.
When you pulled away, the ends of Dazai's lips tugged up into a smile of his own. "Very well then, I'll take your word for it, and I'll prepare sake for both of us when that time comes."
You laughed. "That sounds like a wonderful idea."
