Why I dislike this story: Immature, unappreciative damsel in distress is the main character.
This story (among others) annoys me so damn much.

PSA:

Before proceeding, know that this book isn't meant to personally attack any author I've mentioned. Also, I haven't completely read the second and third book. I've only completed the first book and half of the second book, so please inform me if there was actually any character development on Ayla's part. Even if I said that this was gonna be a rant, this could lowkey be a review. 💀

Here's the synopsis:
When you are fighting for the freedom of your people, falling in love with your enemy is not a great idea. Or is it? Ayla has to defend her castle and her people all on her own, with nobody to help her but a dark warrior she hates with all her heart.

Characters:
Lady Ayla- main character
Sir Reuben Rachwild- love interest
Margrave von Falkenstein- main antagonist
Burchard- steward (?)
Sir Isenbard- One of Ayla's vassals
Sir Luca- commander of all the Margrave's forces
Hans- a soldier who sold out to the Margrave (traitor)

(Ayla is basically the liege lord now since her father's bedridden. This is why I used her vassal instead of her father's vassal.)

Setting: Luntberg Castle

First of all, I thought this story was gonna be good. I was soon disappointed but forced myself to keep reading. I just gave up when I reached the second book. If you read the series, you'll get what I mean when I tell you that Ayla is fücking annoying.

While reading the first chapter of the first book, my initial thoughts were, "Damn, I'm excited. This seems bomb." Yes, that was true for the first few chapters. It soon goes downhill after Ayla cares for Reuben after he gets attacked by the Margrave's men. First, Burchard questions Reuben about his identity. Ayla, for propriety's sake, tells Burchard to stop questioning the injured Reuben for fear of stressing him out. I became annoyed at this part because obviously, Burchard was just concerned, and it seemed like common sense to question a STRANGER before getting comfortable with them. This just proves that common sense isn't so common after all. Smfh. Jesus, I can't explain how dumb this bìtch is. But ok, fine, I was willing to let that part go. Going back to the questioning, Reuben "reveals" himself as a merchant. Burchard remains a bit suspicious but lets it go after Reuben answers a question the way a merchant would.

Because of the upcoming battle with the Margrave, Ayla sends for Sir Isenbard and her other vassals. Few days pass, and they arrive at Luntberg Castle. They prepare, and the battle starts. During the battle, Ayla INSISTS on staying to watch since shE nEeDs tO sEe thIs tO lEarn sOme kiNd oF LeSsOn. She gets confused about strategy and gets Sir Isenbard to explain for her. Smh. The ignorance doesn't surprise me considering the time period, but I expected a bit more to be honest. They manage to overpower the Margrave's mercenaries who were sent to assess their strength. She stupidly assumes that this was it, and Sir Isenbard has to explain to her dum bass that this was in fact, not it. Jeez, you don't have to be some strategical genius to know that. Her naïveté and lack of common sense KILLS me. Pretty much shít like this happens in the rest of the battles that ensue, so I won't bore you guys anymore.

Now, for the second book. Turns out, there's a traitor. Ayla is in denial AND QUESTIONS SIR REUBEN'S LOYALTY WHEN HE'S BEEN THE ONE TEACHING HER MILITARY TACTICS THAT SAVED ALL THEIR ASŠES. I just- WOW. Argument happens, but Sir Reuben understands what she's going through. The enemy camp concocts another plan. They fling the dead bodies of fallen men from Ayla's camp at the castle then basically dress up as ghosts to scare the shït out of Ayla's people and demoralize them. They do this by banging pots and making all sorts of noises that spook the people and keep them up. They do this for four days. The fourth day comes, and they attack. People are tired af, but Sir Isenbard keeps watch. He alerts everyone of the attack, but he gets cornered since the door is jammed. He dies; Ayla cries. Funeral happens, and Ayla gives motivational speech, and they make another plan. By this time, they've already found out the traitor, Hans. Punishment for treachery is execution, but of course, Ayla's too much of a pussy to order that. He gets granted clemency by acting as somewhat of a double agent. Hans lures the Margrave's men by opening the gates(?). The Margrave's men are lead to the killing fields where they ambush them. Ayla's watching and her dumbass was like, "OOooOooH, a battle. Lemme just alert the enemy that I'm here." She yells and jumps in excitement because the plan is successful, and Burchard has to make sure her ass ain't yeeted out of existence.

AN:
I gave up after this, ya'll. If you don't believe what I'm saying, go read it yourself. I rate this book a 1 out of 5. Also Jennifer Lawrence is shit, so yikes. That's another reason to dislike this book since apparently she's Ayla. Sigh. This is where this chapter ends.

Also, tell me if ya'll have any requests. :)))
