Prologue
Morgan sat in the small stone council room. Her son Tomas with his soft features was to her left sitting with a boyish sprawl in his throne legs apart one snow-white hand holding his head up. On Morgan's right was her husband Reed he was straight-backed arguing with a fellow coven member. The stark contrast between the two most important people in her life would make her smile on any other day but not today. Samwell, another leader from a different family spoke saying "they are encroaching on our territory it's a sign of disrespect. We need to show our might."
Morgan placed her hands together saying "and Samwell how do you plan on doing that? Killing them, that would bring to much attention to us , and with the recent activity from the Nomadic clan that would be a bad idea the humans are suspicious now."
Samwell spoke saying "so we do nothing and let them gather strength on our land?"
Morgan smiled and said, "I didn't say that."
Another member Jade spoke up saying "lady Morgan what do you suggest."
Morgan sighed and said, "We talk to them, make sure this isn't a misunderstanding, you said you've never seen that coven before maybe there knew maybe they don't know this is our territory."
Samwell spoke and said, "and if this is a challenge?"
Morgan answered simply "we fight."
Samwell nodded and said, "I can get behind that, but there's another matter I'd like to discuss with you."
Morgan nodded and said, "go on."
Samwell spoke saying "if it does come to a fight, we'd be in great need of fighting men, and as we all know your power comes from your master."
Morgan cut in a bit of edge in her voice saying, "get to the point Samwell."
Samwell spoke saying "I'd like to request you expand your family."
This made Tomas raise his head curious it was a touchy topic for Morgan and her son knew it. Morgan spoke saying "I know you change people for strength, but I don't choose who I turn."
Samwell was about to speak when Morgan spoke saying "this meeting is over. There are refreshments in the cages."Samwell watched as Morgan rose her husband followed getting up first then her son followed getting up they passed the metal doors of the cages were prisoner were banging on the soundproofed doors. The son stopped looking at Samwell his dark eyes lingering and made a shiver go threw Samwell. The boy was no more than eighteen but, he had a cold look like the world and everything in it was boring. Samwell had heard stories about the boy of the powers he had, of the powers all the Blackburn's had. But of course, Lady Morgan would not allow her son to fight. She considered him her child sentiment that Samwell didn't share
Tomas sat in his study reading and admiring his collection of vintage guns. Some he used in his past others had stories from other holders. The walls of the room were lined with gun cases in the middle was a desk with piles of books and other materials on the top. As he sat reading, he heard a knock he expected it to be the cleaners but, when the door opened a red-figure entered the room. He glanced up and seen the red-lipped smile of his mother. He did not return it Tomas rarely smiled anymore. He had just become tired of the mundaneness of human life. His mother spoke saying "Tommy."
This made Tomas look up he only used that nickname when she wanted him to do something. He spoke saying "yes mother?"
She sighed and said, "we need to discuss some changes."
He put his book down and said: "of course."
Morgan spoke saying "At the start of the week you are to join other kids in your respected mental age in the local public high school."
Tomas was taken back as he spoke saying "why? Is this a ploy to lure out this encroaching coven because there would be easier ways to do that?"
Morgan smiled saying "no, it's not about that at all, it's about you."
Tomas replied "about me? What have I done to cause you to send me away during the day?"
Morgan frowned now and said, "See, that's the point you haven't done anything, You're losing yourself your humanity I want you to go to this school and remember what it's like to be human to be alive before you forget for good."
Tomas wanted to argue with his mother. But he knew his mother well and there was no escaping this once she set her mind to something there was no changing it. But he did speak saying "It will draw attention me going to that school. We've secluded ourselves for a reason?"
Morgan smiled again saying "I have it taken care of."
Tomas spoke saying "I'm sure, but mother I don't exactly blend in."
Morgan smiled and said "that's not necessarily a bad thing. They will flock to you if you let them like any sheep to a Shepard."
Tomas spoke saying "and if I don't want that?"
Morgan laughed and said, "you are a Blackburn, used your talents and send them away."
Tomas sighed and said "mother I really don't see the need in this. I am alive as I've ever been."Morgan crossed her arms and said "my boy I need you to listen to me. I've known you sense you were a boy and I'm telling you you may not realize it but you are loosing your humanity."
Tomas sighed and said "I will do as I'm told mother."
Morgan stood up saying "that's all I ask. My love."
