The train had just left the station and everyone had settled into the compartments. Albus and Lily has taken longer to put their things away and as a result, they couldn't fit into the compartment with their family. Lily was near hysterics, and Hugo noticed immediately. He left the lively compartment and gave Lily a reassuring smile,
"Come on, Lils, let's go find a whole compartment to ourselves!" Her eyes light up and she nods eagerly. Albus was glad that she was calmed down, but he wasn't sure if they could find an empty compartment. He kept his doubts to himself, though, for Lily's sake. He didn't want her to be upset before her Sorting and it was in those thoughts that he was engrossed in when he slammed into someone.
"Watch were you're going Potter!" A sneering voice snaps at him and Albus looks into the silver eyes of Scorpio Malfoy,
"Sorry, I didn't mean-," Lily cuts him off as she puffs up in his defense,
"You should watch where you are going! It wasn't his fault!" She snaps at the pale boy in front of her. Scorpio gives her a scowl,
"Wow, Potter, you can't even defend yourself! What's next? Do you need you mum to come and -." Hugo takes a breath,
"That is quite enough, Malfoy. Just leave us be." He says coldly as drags Albus and Lily away from the Slytherin boy.
"If you two are done picking fights, I found us a compartment." Hugo says with a slight grin at the indignant look on Lily's face.
They had just gotten comfortable when the train suddenly stopped. Lily jumped up eagerly and looked out the window,
"Hey, we aren't at Hogwarts yet!" She says confused. Albus goes to reply to her when a voice comes on through all compartments.
"Students, there is nothing to be afraid of. We are just having some technical problems, and due to the large amount of gases and steam we request you all to stay away from the windows. That is all." Albus doesn't move away from the window and what he sees is more terrifying then anything he has ever seen.
The train was being attacked by robed figures, to many to count. They were all perched on broomsticks and knew how to maneuvered them very well. They fired hexes and curses at the Train, but never once was the Train hit. It seemed like a few figures were protecting the Train and they were doing a great job. They shot across the sky on broomsticks with ease, never stoping to worry about their lives. The four figures dodged curses and fired spells of their own, blasting away the attackers with what seemed to be practiced ease. It was almost unworldly to watch. The defenders seemed to know exactly where not to be and where to aim.
"Maybe it's a stunt..." Lily whispers in awe as one figure flicks away a Stun spell and sends one back. A rapping at their compartment door startles all three young wizards. Albus scowls a bit and groans as he recognizes Scorpio. He goes back to watching the fight as Hugo opens the door a bit.
"What do you need?" Hugo asks without an emotion coloring his voice. Scorpio gives him an annoyed look, "all the windows are blocked, except for yours. We want to see what is going on. Let me in." His stormy grey eyes wander over to the window as Hugo signs, "Don't start anything." he warns softly before moving aside. Albus gives his cousin a scowl and moves over so the Slytherin can watch as well.
The fight was still going strong and curses continued to fly.
Scorpio watches the fight with a calculating look on his face. the four defenders had been hit during the fight, as was obvious from the smoking patches on their robes. The attackers dwindled in numbers, but that made them fight even more furiously. One defender is shot with a stunning spell in the stomach and then once more in the back. The figure toppled from the broomstick and dropped like a stone, falling to the ground. One figure flies after the fallen fighter, as the other two make quick work of the last attackers in what could only be described as pure fury. Any chance of the attackers winning was gone and those still flying retreated, acknowledging that fact. Albus had forgotten about the fallen defender in his excitement and only Lily's cry of shock reminds him. His eyes follow the path of the fallen figure, the dark robes fluttering around it like false feathers. At the last moment the flier grabs onto the figure, pulling out of the dive effortlessly. The three conscious fliers start to the Train and disappear from all of the children's views. Lily was pale as was Hugo, but Albus and Scorpio both were flushed with nervous energy.
"That was..." Albus starts and fades off not able to find a good word to describe to experience. Scorpio supplies a few words, "awe-inspiring? Exhilarating?" He grins a bit, "stupefying? Absolutely shocking?" Hugo murmurs,
"All of the above." Lily had stopped paying attention to the boys as she felt the Train start again. Her eyes curiously glance out of the compartment and she gasps, "Albus! Hugo! Look, it's them!" She cries out, pointing to the compartment opposite of them. All eyes lock on the figures settling into the compartment. The figure that had been hit was curled up on one bench while the other three sat across from the fallen one.
Now that they were up close, Albus could see some distinctive differences between them all. Their height was the first thing that he noticed. The one figure that sat stiffly in the middle was the tallest. The next sat to his left, a few inches shorter, but sitting more proper then stiff. The figure to the right was a foot shorter and sat relaxed, leaning back against the bench. The figure on the other bench was the shortest. It was completely obvious. The figure clenched the robe in the pale fist tightly, almost as if it was still fighting. Each of the figure all shift around, before removing their hoods. The tallest was a boy, with shaggy long pale blond locks. His eyes were a deep green, a color that changed with the way the light hit them. His left eyes though had a long scar the cut the tan skin. His expression was one of stern worry and tiredness. The figure to his left was a red head, with his long lock pulled away from his face as he conversed softly with the tall blond. His eyes were a soft grey blue that complimented his pale skin, and his expression was one of mirth and maturity. The shortest of the three was a male as well, but this one seemed so much younger. His canary yellow eyes were wide with mischief as he spoke to the other boys. His sandy blond hair was a mane of untamed strands of hair, but he had a flower crown around his head, making his hair stand up more. The boy was deep brown and seemed to spend every second he could outside. Albus was even more curious about the last figure. It didn't seem like the figure should stir after the hits, but almost as soon as the wild haired boy went to tap it, it did just that. The pale hand smacked at the boy as the figure sat up, the hood falling off the figure's head. A thick mane of raven black hair surrounded a pale, tear shaped face. Her eyes were closed but the pale pink lips parted to stick the tongue out, showing a tongue piercing. The last figure was a girl! She was sleep mused though and her expression showed it. The girl yawned to show elongated canines. Her large eyes opened finally and Albus gasps in shock. Her eyes were the color of fresh blood, a red so strange that he thought he was seeing things. At everyone's gasps he realized that they saw what he did.
Almost as though they heard the gasps, the group of teens looked over at them. Albus realized at their reactions that their eye colors match their personalities. The yellow eyed boy waved at them wildly, sending them a grin and a wink at Lily. The blue eyed boy gave them a slight nod and a polite smile. The green eyed boy only glared, his eyes narrowed. The girl did something that made Albus absolutely curious about her. She stuck her tongue out, and gave them a nod. Yellow was the happy one, blue was the stern and mature one, green was the suspicious and leader like one while red was the reckless, wild one.
Albus Severus Potter only had one thought that raced through his mind, 'Today could have started a lot worse.' His third year at Hogwarts began in an eventful way! He could only hope that the whole year would be like this. He is interrupted in his thoughts again at Lily's squeak of,
"They're coming over here!"
