"we will be landing in sydney airport in a few moments. please make sure all cellular devices are off and you are securely fastened into your seat belt. welcome to australia" the flight attendant's voice travelled throughout the plane over the intercom. i slouched back into my seat, wanting nothing more than to turn this plane around and go back to chicago.

"you hear that reese, we're landing soon" my mother's voice cheered, obviously wanting to get off this stuffy plane and touch land. or too see her stupid boyfriend.

i simply rolled my eyes, that being a habit of mine since my mother decided to move across the world on an impulse to be with her boyfriend, well now fiance, that she had met on eharmony. smart, right?

"look honey, i know you miss your friends and dominic but-"

"don't. we are not going to have a screaming match on this damn plane" i gritted my teeth, getting annoyed with her bringing it up, again.

she sighed in defeat. "i'm sorry"

then while rolling my eyes again and ignoring the flight attendants instructions, i turned my phone back on and shoved my headphones in my ears to hopefully stop her from talking any longer. my music was basically the only thing i had left, everything else was back home.

when we landed about fifteen minutes later, i was so relieved to finally be able to breathe in fresh oxygen while stretching out my legs. my mother and i walked in silence towards the baggage claim, receiving our luggage and then walking further down the airport.

"marcus said he is waiting for us by terminal b, i think its down this way" my mother finally spoke up. focusing on where her fiance should be located and then suddenly took off in the opposite direction of where we were facing, leaving me alone by myself. when i realized why she was basically running away from me, her body was enveloped into an embrace with a males. it was was marcus. his face was nuzzled into her neck and when they pulled away, a huge smile etched its way across his lips.

maybe he does love her.

or maybe he was a serial killer and has us next on his list of victims. you never know.

"reese, darling come over here! i want you to meet marcus" she shouted happily, attracting the attention of many people passing by, yet she didn't care. rolling my eyes yet again, i began walking toward the happy couple, rolling my suitcase along with me. i dreaded the day i would have to meet marcus. the man that took my own mother away from me and turned her insane.

when i did reach the both of them, it didn't take long before i was brought into a hug as well. i just stood there, not knowing what to do until he pulled away.

"it's so great to meet you reese, your mother has told me a lot about you. you are going to love it here in australia!" he beamed, while a forced smile grazed on my lips. i wanted to roll my eyes but i held back from doing so.
