Chapter 1

What’s Your REAL Name?

“So, you’re telling me that because of the dream you have last night, you fear has come back,” Mr. Sanct, my therapist asked, tilting his classes lower on his nose so he could stare down at me.

“Well, it never really left in the first place, did it?” I sat up on the annoyingly brown colored therapy chaise and pierced him with my hazel blue eyes. “I watched someone that I love dearly die because of a fire that burned the hell out of my back.”

Mr. Sanct took off his glasses with a long sigh. Then he stared at me with silence. He finally moved to his pen and paper. Still in silence, he wrote down something and handed it to me. “I want you to take this group session tomorrow, Jax, I think it would help with you dreams and phobia.”

“I don’t want to take a class-”

“Jaclyn, it’s not something you can take lightly. You won’t turn the heat on in your house. You don’t light candles, and you live in cold most of the time. You can’t live like that. So go to the session. If it doesn’t work out for you, I’ll pay for it myself.”

I leaned back on the chair with a huff. “I guess- I mean- Fine.” Not only was this going to be torture but I would have to listen to other people bitch about their fears. I’m filled with joy, can you hear the sarcasm in that?

“The session starts in an hour so go get something to eat and relax for a while. I call your father and tell him to wait for you.”

I rolled my golden brown eyes and stood. “Have a nice day, Mr. Sanct.”

“Don’t be angry, Jaclyn. You know I’m doing this for your benefit.”

“I know, I know.”

“The class is on the second floor just below this office. I think you’ll learn to love it.”

“I laugh at your optimism,” I chuckled walking toward the door. “Thank you Mr. Sanct.”

“Jaclyn? One thing I’ve said to you when we first started was if-”

“If you let your fear control you, you’ll never be able to enjoy the good things that life brings. Yea, I remember.”

“Take the power back from your fear.”

I smiled and walked out the door. “One day. It will happen one day.”

I bumped into a kid who was walking into Mr. Sanct office and he steadied me. “Sorry beautiful, didn’t see you there.” His blue eyes locked with mine and I felt myself smile. His eyes reminded me of a crystal clear ocean, one where you could see all the colors that create a barrier reef.

“Someone in there,” he asked and I shook my head. “I’m Marcel.”

“Jax,” I smiled and shook his hand. “I haven’t seen you before.”

“I’m new to town,” he smiled. That’s a million dollar smile. “Just got here with my twin brother and his girlfriend. Unfortunately we all have a little phobia we need to take care of. Heard this Dr. Sanct is one of the best.”

I nodded my head and leaned against the wall. “He is,” I admitted. “He made my fear go away for a very long time. Unfortunately for me, and him, my dreams don’t stay fear free.”

“Sorry to hear that. So you’re leaving your session early?”

“Nope. He wants me to do a group session. Which, if you ask me, is just going to make things worse but I respect Mr, Sanct so I’ll do it for him.”
