Samantha, after a long while, woke up from... actually, she didn't know what she woke up from. She got up and sat on her knees on the ground. The feeling slowly came back to every part of her body. She could feel something underneath her, so she looked down. Her eyebrows arched in surprise. Someone had made her a little bed of leaves. She turned around and she saw someone looking down at the ground. Suddenly, she remembered what had happened. "Are you the demon boy?" she said, slowly shifting away from him. He said nothing and simply just looked down. "Answer me," she said, her voice cracking. He sighed and then looked at her, his shining blue eyes staring deep into her green ones. She gasped and her eyes widened with fear. "Please. Don't be afraid," he said. "I don't bite." His voice made it sound like he was scared of her, so she relaxed. But she didn't move any closer. "Thank you," he said. "And by the way, you fainted." Samantha rolled her eyes. "Nice of you to tell me now," she said, being sarcastic. "But... why though? Did your parents tell you a scary story about demons or something?" he said. "No," she replied, looking down at the ground. "Then what? Why are you so afraid of demons? What did they ever do to you?" He said, clearly angered. She couldn't take it. He thought everything was just a story, and it was a fake fear. She looked up at him with fiery eyes and said, "My parents and my brother died in a were-demon attack." She saw his body relax, and a sympathetic look crossed his face. "Oh," he said. "I'm sorry, I didn't know that." He seemed embarrassed, but he didn't say anything more. Samantha didn't want to make him feel bad, so she changed the topic. "I never got your name," she said. "Jordan Fletcher," he replied, looking relieved at the change. "What's yours?" "It's Samantha Wolfe," she replied. "Cool," he said, clearly not knowing what else to say. They sat in silence once more.

Jordan broke the silence, asking, "So, um, what are you doing here?" "I just got diagnosed," she answered. He just nodded, without giving an answer. She guessed that he knew what she meant. "What were the results?" he asked. It was an odd question, but what was the worst that could happen?. She hesitated, then said, "Promise you won't run away screaming?" she asked. The tips of his mouth curved into a slight smile. Did he think she was joking around? She looked him dead in the eyes, and his smile disappeared when he realized she was being serious. He was caught off guard by the question. "Oh uh, no. I won't," he finally managed. "Good. I'm a werewitch," she said, hanging her head. She was still expecting him to jump up or back away. But he didn't. He simply said, "Oh." Samantha, shocked at his reaction, said, "You're not scared? It doesn't bother you at all that I'm a werewitch?" He just looked at her and shrugged. "I mean, it's not much worse than mine," he said. "You're joking, right? You're just a demon!" Samantha said. She almost burst out laughing. "Demon witch," Jordan corrected. "Oh," she replied, seeing what he meant. She looked for a bright side, like always, and said, "Well at least we have something in common, right?" "Mhm, right," he replied, shrugging. There was more silence between the two. As they sat there together in the forest, Samantha thought about how kind her uncle had been this morning before the test. Her uncle even got up earlier than usual just to get her ready and wish her luck. Then, as soon as a stupid test says she's a werewitch, he kicks her out as if he never knew her. A silent tear rolled down her cheek. Suddenly, a tissue appeared out of thin air in front of her and danced towards her face. Samantha grabbed it from the air and stuffed it in her pocket. Only when she looked at Jordan did she realize that he had been watching her. He blinked, pulling himself out of his trance-like state. "So," he said, looking away, embarrassed. "Did you leave or get kicked out?" Samantha immediately knew that he was talking about her running away. "Oh, uh..." she stammered. Jordan looked at her expectantly. "Kinda both," she finally managed. "I was thrown out as soon as I told them what I was." "It was that bad?" he asked. Samantha just nodded, not wanting to say anymore. She could feel more tears coming, but Jordan's gaze was placed intently on her, so she held them back. Jordan sighed, looked away, then said, "Mine did neither." Samantha turned and looked at him. He didn't run, but his parents didn't kick him out. So why was he here? "Well actually, I did kinda run," Jordan continued quietly. "But I ran because my parents tried to kill me. I've been waiting here in case they change their minds.." Samantha gaped. "They would do that, and then you would just forgive them?" she said. Jordan just shrugged. "At least I'm not dead," he said.

Jordan leaned back on the tree. As he did, Samantha thought about what he had said. This isn't fair, she thought. Everyone should get a chance! And why was her village the only village that had these tests? The village across the river didn't live like this. She was surprised at the next thought that flew into her head. What if it's all a scam? What if it's just for the entertainment of the guards that live nearby? Her blood boiled at the pure thought of it. Suddenly, something snapped in her hand. She looked down and noticed that she was holding electricity. She jumped back, waving her hand around like it was on fire. When the electricity finally went away, she let out a sigh and sat back down. Jordan, who had seen the whole thing, said, "You know that was your magic right? It's fueled by your emotions." "Oh ok. For a second I thought my hand was actually on fire," she replied, her whole body shaking. He nodded, and turned back, looking out into the woods.

As they sat, a thought came inside Samantha's head. What if they went to the king? The king could help with all their problems! He would definitely know if one of his guards had made up the entire thing, and he could fix it! She turned to Jordan. "Do you want to come?" Jordan just stared at her, confusion spreading across his face. "Come where?" he asked. Samantha decided that he would probably say no, so she just got up and grabbed his arm, pulling him farther into the forest. "Samantha?" Jordan said, clearly puzzled. Samantha smiled on the inside. His reaction would be worth it. She put on a poker face and said, "We're going to see the king. And call me Sam, please." Jordan's arm relaxed in her grip. "Oh, ok," he said. Then a realization hit him and he blurted out, "Wait, WHAT?" She didn't stop. If she stopped, he would run. She just looked back at him and smiled. His eyes were wide, but she knew he would do fine. She kept pulling him deeper into the forest, and closer to the king's castle.
