Madeline is a girl who long ago fell in love with Nick but nothing good came of that love that ended up in a tragedy making Nick feel guilty.
Madeline's last word was to follow him even while she was dead, she wants revenge on him but also she wants him to be happy.
Nick keeps seeing her wherever he goes, reminding him of the few but good moments that they spent together, this causes him to think on his actions and he regret all he done. Appreciating the things and people around him.
Because you never know when the people can go and when it's the last time you'd see those people.
