"You know everything will be alright tonight don't you Vi?"

Violet closes her eyes as a cold breeze washes over her, and she clasps her jacket tighter around her chest. Her other hand clutches at her phone, her knuckles slowly turning white as she tightens her grip on her mobile.

Louis speaks down the line again, but over the turning weather overhead and the nerves that overwhelm her, Violet mishears him.

"Sorry Lou," she mutters as she pauses to zip up her tattered jacket. "I can barely concentrate, I'm so nervous about this."

"Why's that?" queries her friend over the bubbling static.

Violet takes a few moments of collection, turning onto a new street and admiring the lowly lit avenue ahead of her. Each house is sectioned off by high rise hedges or wooden panels of fencing. Even under the darkness of the growing night, Violet can see the vibrant red brickwork, the well-kept gardens and expensive cars decorating their respective driveways.

"I'm just nervous," says Violet into her phone as she glances down at Clementine's address she'd hastily written on a scrap of paper earlier.

"All the stuff I said to her this morning," she mumbles, looking up at door numbers as an excuse for her silence. "I meant everything that I told her, I do want more than just sex. It's just nerve-wracking because I've never had feelings like this. Not ones that were reciprocated anyway," she mutters, aware of Louis's knowledge on her past flings with Minerva.

"So..?" queries her friend. Despite the fact that Violet's talking to Louis over the phone, via his tone she can tell her best friend has his eyebrows raised.

"When you're not used to relationships," explains Violet, "it's unnerving I guess." The blonde falters slightly with her words as she comes to a standstill outside a large semidetached house, numbered with an ornate plaque labelled with the figure seventy-one.

"I'm here anyway," she mutters as she sways her weight from one foot to the other. Cautiously she lets her gaze linger on the front window that pours light onto the stone-paved patio.

Through the glass, she can make out the faded silhouette of Clementine. The brunette is leaning against the counter with her back to the window, clearly lost in conversation with another resident of her household.

The sight of her makes Violet's chest tighten in a concoction of nerves and excitement.

"You know it'll be fine don't you Vi," assures Louis.

Violet lingers for a few moments more, listening to the wavering static over the phone as she drums her fingertips against her leg. Keeping her eyes trained on the window Violet's breath quickens as she watches the silhouette belonging to Clementine turn around.

For a while, the brunette amuses herself by scrolling through her phone, but as the seconds pass Clementine loses interest in her mobile and lifts her gaze out of the window.

Almost immediately she makes eye contact with Violet. And then she smiles.

"I really have to go now," says Violet down the phone, not even waiting for Louis's reply before she ends the call and pockets her mobile.

Clementine continues to smile softly at Violet as the blonde's fingers tremble over the latch on the front gate. Violet can feel the brunette's gaze resting heavily on her as she traces the stone steps laid out on the pathway. When she reaches the front door and glances at the kitchen window, she notes that Clementine's sudden absence makes her heart quicken.

Before she has the chance to lay her fingertips on the doorbell, Clementine pulls the wooden door open and beams warmly at the blonde.

"You came," she breathes with a smile as bright as spring.
