THE GIRL AT THE CENTRE

CHAPTER ONE :THE BEGINNING

"Mira hurry up or you'll be late,"my grandmother shouted."We need to go to the cemetery early if you wanna make it in time for the orientation"

I opened the door and shouted back,"I'm done."Grandma was right.Today was grandpa's anniversary. He died five years ago after he succumbed to a heart attack.
Grandma was the only family I had. My parents died after a gang opened fire in the middle of the streets and my sister was abducted soon after.

"OK let's get going Mira," grandmother shouted. She was one impatient woman.

We paid our respects to him when we got there and instead of our usual crying session we proudly told him of my accomplishments.
"Mira is now all grown up and she is now going to University. And she's not attending just any university but Daycent University. She really worked hard. We know you're proud of her, "grandma said wiping away the tear that had managed to escape.I knew grandpa must have been happy for the short period of time I lived with home he always wanted the best for him. I always did my best to live up to his dreams.

When we were done I dropped grandma back home,picked up my luggage and commenced the two hour journey to my University.It took a while since I had to convince my grandma how I was gonna be a good girl and blah blah blah,you know the usual drill.Well if you don't here it is:
"Have you packed everything "
"Yes grandma I have"
"Your medicine"
"Yes"
"Don't sleep around with boys,don't go to parties...
"Don't take drugs, don't drink alcohol and so on and so forth," I finished her usual mantra.
"I'll miss you Mira, sweet sweet innocent Mira," grandma said trying to immitate my best friend.
"Grandmaaa! I need to go"
"OK fine.I love you."
"I love you too grandma"I gave her a hug and she gave me a peck on my cheek and I went.
When I was about to board my car I shouted,"though about the parties"
"MIRA!!! "
"Love you grandma,"and off I went.

I was excited and scared at the same time. Excited because I was about to start a new life in a new place where no one knew me as the girl who lost her everything and now lives with her grandma. Scared because I didn't know how to live as not that girl.

After a long silent ride I got to the university.

"Welcome new life"

When I got to my room, my roommate had not arrived yet and so I got the chance to choose the bed right next to the window.
It was a white coloured room with two beds perpendicular to each other with only a small space separating them.There was a closet at the end of each bed and a study table at the end of each closet.
I liked how it looked so comfy and made me feel at home.After all it was my new home.

I unpacked my clothes and arranged them in the closet. I took out a framed picture of my grandma and I to place it on the table only to find out that she had also put a framed picture of my parents,sister,grandpa,her and I.

Suddenly the door was opened revealing a tanned girl with strawberry blonde hair in ragged denim  coat and pants with a white top.

"Mira!" "Bri!" we both shouted
We enveloped each other in a hug so excited to see each other. Bri is my best friend.I was so excited to find out that we were going to room together.

"Oh my gosh,why didn't you call me when you arrived?"She started attacking me with questions. "Today is the fifteenth "
"oooh" she answered full of apprehension.
It was a habit of mine not to really engage with any other person other than my grandma when it was an anniversary of my loved ones.
We engaged in small talk as we continued unpacking.Bri told me all about her weird send off and laughed over how funny our send offs were.
Suddenly our phones rang. I looked at the ID and saw that it was my best friend Jake.

"Hey Mira, sweet sweet Mira "(grandma is quite a teaser)
"Hey Jake the jerk,"I answered back
"Aaaw I can feel the love"I imagined him rubbing his chest feigning hurt
"What do you want?"I said rolling my eyes.
"I was wondering if you wanted to join our small group of friends to have supper "
"You mean Bri, Erick you and I"
"Yeah, is that cool"
"Yeah"
"Are you sure.You don't have to do it just cause it's our first day of university "
"I'm sure jerk."

Jake had planned that we all go to his father's house which was within the campus. His parents weren't at home and since we'd never gone there it was the best place.

Little did I know that slowly by slowly the beginning of everything was unfolding .

Authors note: I know this is not much but I'm trying as much as I can to write as fast as possible. But y'all know writers block is real so it's not as fast as I'd like it to be. I'll try to write a chapter within three days and on some lucky days it could be more.
