Land Rover is a symbol of elegance and performance. Land Rover has been able to carve a place of its own in the global automobile industry due to its design and the advanced technological parts it uses in its various models. However, Land Rover needs maintenance and servicing on a regular basis to perform at its best. As these cars use very expensive parts, you should never be complacent regarding their maintenance schedule. All the parts of a Land Rover are intricately related to each other so if one of the components fails, then it is most likely that other parts which are related to it will also malfunction.
When it comes to regularly maintaining the Land Rover, most of the time it is seen that the car owners are not complying with the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule. In the long run, it has an adverse effect on the performance of the Land Rover. Moreover, there have been frequent complains of Land Rover heating up abnormally after driving for a few miles. This is a very serious issue as it has the potential to cause permanent damage to the engine of your car. Here are the reasons behind the overheating of your Land Rover.
Thermostat malfunctioning
The malfunctioning thermostat will always lead to engine overheating in your Land Rover. This is because thermostat allows the coolant to circulate inside the radiator. Whenever the thermostat gets clogged due to debris build up or is stuck in the closed position then, the coolant would also get blocked. The thermostat is not part of the cooling system, however, it functions like a valve that allows the amount of coolant that should flow in & out of the radiator which is a part of the cooling system. Therefore, it helps the engine of your Land Rover to function under normal temperature. Malfunctioning thermostat leads to a rapid increase in the temperature of the engine and your Land Rover heats up abnormally.
Low Coolant level
The coolant is the liquid that is responsible for keeping the temperature in your Land Rover under control. However, if the level of the coolant is low, then it will certainly cause the engine of your Land Rover to overheat. If you are going to refill the coolant reservoir, then it will fix the problem on a temporary basis. But in the long run, the problem is going to occur again. Moreover, a low coolant level also indicates that there is a leak in the cooling system of your Land Rover somewhere. If you park your Land Rover in a place somewhere for a long time, then you will find puddles of coolant beneath the car. The leak needs to be properly repaired or the issue will get worse in due course of time.
Water pump failure
There is a water pump present in every cooling system of Land Rover which is responsible for moving the coolant around the engine to manage temperature and prevent overheating. Water circulates throughout the radiator, past the pump, into the engine and is then forced back into the radiator. If there is an issue with the water pump, then there will be no proper movement of the coolant, which will eventually lead to overheating of the engine of your Land Rover.
Leak in the radiator
The radiator is a very important component of the cooling system of your Land Rover and leaks in the radiator is caused due to a faulty or ruptured hosepipe. Hosepipes are susceptible to wear & tear and should be replaced from time to time. The hoses link the radiator to the engine and allow the coolant to flow in between them. Due to the extreme pressure created, the rubber hoses which connect the radiator to the engine get damaged. The most common way to detect the leak is to look under the Land Rover and if there is the presence of puddle or liquid beneath the car, then there is a leak which needs to be fixed immediately.
Finally
The above-mentioned factors are some of the reasons behind the abnormal heating of your Land Rover. Preventive maintenance goes a long way in preventing this kind of situation. However, if you experience your Land Rover heating up, then take your car to an to diagnose and fix the issue.
