星涙病 - Star Disease:
" the sparkly star-like tears, accompanied with twinkling sounds, is caused by unrequited love. similar to the hanahaki disease, only if your feelings are returned will the disease go away. if not, the beautiful glimmer of the tears will eventually blind you. "
✨
Kageyama Tobio had no idea when he started feeling this way.
He didn't know when that orange hair stopped seeming stupid. He didn't know when that laughter became so loud & contagious. He didn't know when the shorty's terrible receives stopped annoying him. He didn't know when those eyes became so beautiful, or when the mere thought of that face made his heart stop.
Kageyama Tobio had no idea when he had fallen in love with Hinata Shoyo, but it became clear to him when tears full of jealousy began falling from his eyes. It was the thought of him with someone else— anyone else — that brought on this onslaught of emotions he never felt before.
。。。
So now he's here; alone in the club room, his eyes red & puffy from crying. As the minutes pass, his sobs become more & more violent. It becomes harder for him to breathe & soon he's gasping for air. His entire body starts shaking so he leans on the nearest wall, trying his hardest not to slip. But his sobs don't end & he slides to the ground, feeling defeated & vulnerable.
Then it stops.
Just like that.
Tears stopped falling, body stopped shaking, emotions now dulled. Having spilled everything inside, Kageyama was simply an empty cup. The cold tiled floor was the only thing that could be felt, the rest of his senses were now numb & practically useless. It was over —
— at least that's what he thought.
Just as suddenly as the crying stopped, it began again, only this time there was a small ringing in his ears, it sounded almost like the twinkling of stars. Along with the sounds, came a sharp pain from around & behind his eyes. Of course, he felt as though the sounds & pain were nothing but side effects of crying so much.
Oh boy — was he wrong.
When Kageyama moved his hands to wipe away what he thought were simply tears, he was met with stars that shined through the darkness of the club room. Bewildered by this, he stopped wiping at his face & simply allowed his shaking hands to fill up with stars of his body's own creation.
He was able to see varying shades of orange among these stars, along with different hues of yellow & white within the smaller ones. The twinkling he was hearing? It came from the stars that now accompanied the liquid that fell from his eyes.
Panic began to set in.
"No..."
Kageyama denied what was clearly in front of him, choosing to believe, if only for a few seconds, that what he was seeing was simply an illusion. A figment of his imagination. Possibly a dream. His eyes playing tricks on him. Not real.
"This isn't happening—"
Standing up on quivering legs, the male scrambled to collect any stray stars that had fallen from his hands, not wanting to leave a trace behind, just in case this was all real.
He had to check to make sure. So, he clumsily made his way to the nearest washroom, stars in hand. Although Kageyama was able to collect most of them, many continued to fall from his eyes, & unbeknownst to him, left a small trail in the darkness.
。。。
The person looking back in the mirror seemed like a stranger to Kageyama. It was still him, but different.
"I look like a lizard & a tomato had a fucking baby —" he whispered to himself, his voice hoarse, as he studied his puffy, red, & star / tear-streaked face.
Now he couldn't say it was a figment of his imagination or an illusion created by his brain. It was as clear as day; the stars that were so evidently brought on by his sadness yet looked so beautiful falling from his eyes & into the sink.
Kageyama dropped the stars he had previously picked up into the sink & allowed the continuous flow from his eyes to fall in as well. He couldn't stand to look at them any longer, so he turned on the faucet, watching as some dissolved while others were pushed down the drain.
Strangely enough, the sound of running water helped to calm down the usually unbothered male. Holding onto the sides of the sink to keep himself upright, Kageyama stared at the contents of the sink, allowing his mind to cloud over.
As a few minutes passed, the flow of combined liquid & star from his eyes slowed down. It was vaguely noted. The time spent standing there passed by in an unclear blur until a voice was heard.
"Kageyama?"
The person in question whipped around in the direction of the voice, fear creeping its way into his head. He was scared of being caught by the one person who caused him to cry in the first place.
Thankfully for him, it wasn't Hinata, who was the last person he wanted to see at the moment. He let out a small sigh of relief, "Suga-san..."
Sugawara stood by the door as he studied Kageyama's face, his own softening with understanding at the sight of so many pretty stars. He made his way over to his underclassman, pulling him into a hug without saying a single word.
They stayed like this for a while, the only thing that could be heard was the running water from the tap.
At this point, Kageyama had a vague idea of what was happening to him, but he felt the need to break the quietness & ask anyways, "What... what is this?"
There was only one explanation, the only thing that could rationalize this surreal phenomenon:
"Kageyama, it's Star Disease."
( lance: uhh so yeah that's it for now, I sorta wanna turn this into an entire story with an actual plot & multiple chapters but I don't know if I should ? maybe I should just leave it as one chapter — dunno . I need opinions please — )
