It was a long summer day and our group had decided to stay back after school to discuss the physics project assigned to us by Mr. Wallace. We were going to turn school speakers into microphones for our school security system, though nobody liked the idea of being spied on by the school authorities, we couldn't deny a request by the school Principal. We were the smartest group in Musk Academy after all.
Just when everything was done and all the laptops were finally closed shut. I was more than ready to run to my Range Rover, turn on some music and get some good ice-cream. Unfortunately, the heavens prevailed and both Eric's and my phone buzzed together. Whenever something like this happened we knew something was off. We looked at the message and made eye contact, disgust clear on both our faces.
It was a notification to remind us that the cotillion practices were beginning this weekend. As much as we both wanted to get out of it, we both knew that it was an age-old tradition and that our families (the Hearts and Stones) had no intention of letting us skip it. We had to go, they won't budge and it would end in terror, not to mention how powerful our families are. Is it okay to be scared of your own family's power? God knows what more this year is going to bring upon us, now that we're both turning eighteen.
Eric comes up to my desk and waves his hand in front of my eyes, and I shake my head to clear my thoughts. He says, "Don't worry we'll get through this, just like we always do." He smiles his bright smile and I get lost in the oceans of his blue eyes. He gives me hand to stand up and I take it.
"Ana I know what you want right now."
"What?"
"Ice-cream. Let's go." I smile, knowing that though he hates such things more than I do, all he does is care about me right now. Or am I just imagining it?
