Her eyes flittered through the pages, Amber was looking through this journal as if she was in a rush or was trying to find something obviously important to her. The taller male at the counter watched her intently, finding it oddly cute that she was so concentrated on the journal in front of her. "Ahem, Miss?" the male coughed, and then said, "You need to, uh, order..." he said with a low chuckle as he nudged towards the menu up above him. Amber looked up, a wave of emotions appearing on her face but the most prominent of them being worry. "I am so sorry!" she chirped, clearly oblivious of her surroundings, "I'll take a Vanilla Bean Frappe" she said, digging around her purse for the money and change she would need. "Alright that'll be 2.49$", the male Barista said, a smile on his face as he took the cash that was in her hand and handed her the change she was going to be given. As he made her Frappe, he thought to himself how awfully familiar the girl was. Amber left the Coffee shop after grabbing her Frappe, knowing full well who the Barista was. "Fuck! that was close...I didn't know he was working today" she thought to herself, clenching her fist close to her heart. She then shook her head, sighing as she walked down the street to access the V.I.P parking that her dad had gotten for her for free. As she got into the car, she started it up and began driving towards her home, happy to be in the comfort of something that didn't involve being in public. As she got out of the car, taking her bags with her, a maid suddenly popped up and began taking the bags from her arms. "No! Marie! Stop, I got it." Amber started shouting, only to be shushed by the Head Maid. "No, I am literally paid to do this, let me do my job miss" the Maid had said, not caring about her attitude knowing that she was talking to the lesser strict of the few people that she was working for. Amber rolled her eyes and sighed, slamming the car door shut as she followed the Maid up to her room. As the Maid set the boxes and bags down, Amber ushered her out of the room as she wanted peace and quiet for once. "Finally!" she said to herself, grabbing the boxes of shoes and the bags of clothes and placing them in the respective places in her closet. As she finished placing the items in her closet, she heard her name being yelled from down the stairs. Sighing, she slowly took her shoes off and began to put on her slippers along with her black pj's. "Yes?" she yelled from the doorway, not knowing who was calling her, "Come downstairs now!" she heard, recognizing the voice of her mothers. "Coming!" she yelled as she shut her door softly, running down the stairs and into the main room where her mother was waiting for her along with her father. "Your father and I have something to talk to you about," Her mother said, Her New Yorkian accent coming out as she finished those words, "It's came to our attention that your 18th birthday is coming up this weekend and your Father and I have decided to host a party in your honor BUT, unlike the other times we've done this, it's a formal attire." Her mother finished. Amber stood there in disbelief, her parents both knew that she hated Formal events, mainly for the reason being that she knew no one there because of them being twenty years older than her."Fine, but is it the same as any other time? Can I at least invite my schoolmates over?" Amber questioned her parents, eyeing them with the puppy dog eyes coming it'll tie them over quick. "Of course, it is your birthday, we do want you to feel the most comfortable and the most happiest." Her father finally chimed in, much to the dismay of her mother. The younger female smiled, happy to find out she could maybe snag in a dance with her lifetime crush. "How are you and your boyfriend?" Amber's mother asked her, a smirk on her face. Her parents hated her lover, for the more obvious reasons being that he knew nothing about keeping track of money and just overall not being a good person. "I think I am going to uh, break up with him tomorrow. I think it's best to do it a few hours before the birthday party so he doesn't show up thinking we're together." She told both her parents, knowing her father would still care to hear this bit of information.A sigh of relief came out of both her parents mouths, "Finally, after 2 years of dating I figured you would catch up and realize how bad he was for you." her Mother chirped up, "I mean, he has cheated on you once with your best friend, why are you still with the boy anyway? and your best friend? never liked her either." her Father stated, causing Amber to gasp at this. Her parents rarely cared about her this much, and for them to act like this truly warmed her heart and made her confused. "Alright well, I guess i'll have to go back out and find a dress for tomorrow then" Amber said, clearly wanting to go back out just to go formally invite her crush out in person."Alright dear, love you!" both of her parents shouted as she went back upstairs to change. After changing and getting back into her car, she revved the engine and started driving to the second place her crush would be, at the mall. It was a Friday after all. As she drove up to the parking garage, she parked the car and sat there for a few minutes pondering. "Really, is this all worth it?" she thought to herself, gazing off a bit until she heard a knocking to the left of her on her window. She rolled the window down and looked up, her eyes widening and her heart racing as she saw who it was. "Uh, hi, yeah I don't know if you know who I am? We go to the same school, my name's Thomas, and we sorta met at the Cafe you come to everyday?" he chuckled, introducing himself as if I don't know who he was. "I know who you are. You're Thomas Michael Price, you're the kicker on the football team and my boyfriend's best friend." she said out-loud to him, stating the obvious. "Oh, uh I guess you do know me...haha... well I was going to ask you if I could have a ride? Your boyfriend ditched me for another gir- I mean friend, so I was uh wondering...yeah..." He said nervously, putting his hand behind his neck."You can say he's with a girl, I already know about how he is. I've been dating him for years." She rolled her eyes, checking her lipgloss to see if it was smudged and adding a bit more to her lips. She sighed, clearly unhappy, and he could see that. "Well, I would love to bring you home but I have to go dress shopping for an event tomorrow." she said, pushing the car door open causing him to move out of the way. "Your birthday party? Yeah, your parents are announcing it everywheres on social media. It's all people can talk about right now." He said, causing Amber to roll her eyes. "Of course, they did that." She sighed, rubbing her temples, "Uh well, I can go dress shopping with you? then after you can bring me home?" he offered, causing her to look up with a smile on her face, "Sure! let's go!" she giggled a bit, grabbing his hand and kicking the door shut as she ran towards the nearest store. He noticed that she was heading towards the most expensive store that they had here, and he started gulping, realizing he was not cut out here. Thomas wasn't one for money, his Parents and family had barely any of it. His dad worked his hardest to make sure his son (Thomas) went to the best school, and his Mother made sure he was all set for school and did his homework. They got by, and Thomas was grateful to have two wonderful parents. As he watched Amber go crazy, he realized how lucky she was, and not only that but he also realized how incredibly beautiful she was. He's always known this, for years at least, but never could say anything because of his own buddy falling for her instead. He didn't deserve her, and Thomas knew that."Thomas! What about this?" Amber asked, causing Thomas's eyes to shoot up towards her as she walked out of the dressing room. The dress was black at the top, snug and fit her in all the right areas, and then started to descend into this beautiful red color. It was a mermaid gown, and it looked so good on her. "That's the one. Get that." he said, giving her an awkward thumbs up causing Amber to laugh. Much to their oblivious dismay, one of the girls from their school noticed them from the corner of her eye and snapped a picture of them, whispering to her friend and pointing at them. They laughed and the girl sent the photo to Amber's boyfriend and Thomas's best friend. As they finished checking out and buying the dress, Amber couldn't help but notice that Thomas didn't go and get himself a suit. "Why haven't you bought a suit yet? For the event tomorrow?" she questioned him, turning towards him as she asked him this because she was genuinely curious. "B-Because..." he stuttered, looking up at her, sighing as he finally told her the truth, "Because my family is broke, my dad works really hard to get me into a good college so the money that we get to send me to this super fancy private school comes from my dad. I rarely see him at home." he whispered, so she could only hear. Her eyes widened, and as soon as she heard this so she shook her head and grabbed his hand, making him try all the good suits that she could find. After that suit and dress episode, they walked out of the mall, both of them laughing. "Amber you didn't need to buy me a new suit, I could have just used my dad's old suit." he said, but when he turned to look at her she was frozen in place staring at her phone. "What's wrong?" he whispered kneeling a bit to look at her face, "Someone took a pic of us together in the shop, and sent it to Mikey." she whispered, almost breathlessly, "And now he, he basically just got mad at me because I didn't respond to him when we were in the store shopping. He broke up with me." she said, tears running down her face as she realized what had happened. "Woah wait! Why are you crying? I thought you hated him?" Thomas asked, clearly confused."I just... I feel so free now!" she said, a smile casted on her face as tears streamed down her face, "I don't feel stuck in a toxic relationship anymore.." she whispered. Thomas hugged her just in case, and he held onto her so she wouldn't leave (as if she would.) and he just tried his best to calm her down. Soon enough after that fiasco, they walked towards her car and she brought him home. She helped him bring the suit inside, she said hello to his mother and before they said their good-byes she looked up at him as they stood in the doorway to Thomas's home. "Thomas," she breathed out, "I-uh...I wanted to ask if you could be my date to my event tomorrow? My mom texted me earlier saying I could have one date to the dance and they're stuck with me for the rest of the night and I was hoping that would be you?" she rambled out, hoping he would say yes. Thomas chuckled and covered his face, to hide his evident blushing, "Amber, of course i'll go with you!" he laughed, and hugged her before then saying his good-byes and her saying her good-byes. Amber got into the car and drove home, blasting some happy music and singing and giggling all the way home with a smile whereas Thomas laid on his bed, sitting up to stare at the suit Amber had bought him. A smile never left his face as he went to sleep later that night.END OF CHAPTER ONE.
