Chapter 13: A Friend's Promise

"Hide here and don't come out." the seriousness in her voice told me that I should obey her. That didn't mean I was gonna do it. I watched her turn to face the man who she called Akki. He smirked as he jumped off the tree branch he sat on. Izumi slowly walked toward him, stopping at a distance.

"So, Akki. How does it feel to lose your main sorce of power?" she smirked back. He immediatey lost his smirk and frowned at her. Then, he began laughing,

"You really think I am powerless against you? I took out your entire family!"

"No. You didn't. Gaara did." Izumi smiled. "Your getting annoying." Izumi unshithed Lightning Strike and began to charge. Something told me to stop her, so I quickly grabbed her arm, making her stop and glance at me. "Atsu...?"

"I'm not going to let you fight him alone." I gripped her arm tighter. I could see the fear in her eyes was still existant. She looked unsure for a second, then, she shook her head,

"Thanks, Atsu, but this isn't your fight. I can handle it, okay?" she placed a gentle hand on mine, making me let her go. She turned back to Akki and charged again. He only stood there, waiting for her to come closer. Something wasn't right.

"Izumi! Stop!" once again, I warned too late. Chains shot from Akki's hands and grabbed Izumi. She screamed as she was violently pulled closer to Akki's face. I was frozen in fear once again. I was so pathetic...

"Do you feel pain yet, Izumi? Or, maybe I should make it more painful for you!" he used his chains to throw her away from him, and closer to me. I ran to her, helping her up,

"I'm okay." she wiped a bit of blood from her cheek. "This isn't over you know." she scowled.

"Oh, but I think it is, dear. You see, now that I don't need your assistance anymore, I can kill you!" I gasped as I spotted a thick chain traveling toward us at almost the same speed as light itself. My instinct was to save Izumi, so I jumped in front of her.

I watched as the chains grew closer, then, I felt it rip through my torso. Pain, immense pain filled my entire body as I faded in and out of consciousness. I felt wind blow softly against my back as I fell to the ground. I was ready for even more pain, expecting to land on the hard dirt path. But instead, I felt someone catch me, I saw black hair and golden eyes, they were blurry, but it wasn't hard to see those beautiful eyes.

The last thing I heard, was Izumi call my name, she sounded desperate. Sounded scared. I felt her place her hand on my wound to try to stop the bleeding. I could tell she was trying not to hurt me. I smiled as good as I could, the managed to mumble,

"I h-ad to pro-protect y-you. Be-because...I pr-promised y-you, and-" the world's light began to fade, I knew I had merely a couple seconds to say what I needed to. But there was too much to say...I was forced to sum it up in five words, "I love you...and-and I'm- in s-sorry, Iz-Izumi........." the last thing I felt, was a few tears fall onto my cheek. They were Izumi's, she was crying again. I forced my eyes open so I could manage one more thing, I struggled to put my hand to her face. She leaned her face into it gently. Before I could speak, I felt her hand leave my wound and grasp my hand tightly,

"Atsu...just, please hang in there. I believe in you...I know it hurts...but....but....stay strong...o-okay? it will be okay...I promise." she squeezed my hand, I felt even more tears fall down her cheek.

"I-Izumi please don't cry...please smile...so if I d-die, I'll be a-able to remember y-you looking h-happy...please..." she gave me a fake smile, her face was still blurry, but I could still see her good enough. I gave her my best smile too, "Remember me...looking happy...okay?" she leaned in and kissed my lips. Tears rolled down my face too as the world went black, I lost the warm, comforting feeling that Izumi' s hand provided for me...all I felt was pain...
