"Okay. So I think that we should make a list of what I'll want, then look at what I have and check things off, then order what I don't have." I suggest.
"That sounds good." Cole says. Then he walks over to my desk and grabs a notebook. For the next two hours, we make lists. Lists of things I have, need for my room, need for school, homework I'll have to catch up on. We go on the school's website and write down the school supplies I'll need.
"And.....done." I say, putting my notebook down.
"And....almost....done." Cole says, scribbling the last few words.
"Okay so. I'm going to list the like appliances first. You need a printer, coffee maker, some plates, forks, spoons, cups, mugs, coffee table, alarm clock, long mirror, laundry hamper, laundry basket. Anything else?" He says.
"Ummm. I'm probably going to need some cords and stuff to hook my computer up to my printer. Ooh. And an iPhone 5." I say. Cole stares at me.
"What?" I ask.
"Computer cords? Fine. iPhone 5? Wow. You're really making your parents pay for this." Cole says.
"I know. But they're the ones who decided to send me to boarding school." I point out. We make more lists for school supplies and clothes. I log onto my computer and the fun part begins.
I order everything like the appliances first. Then I order what I'll need for the appliances. I order school supplies next. Then I order my clothes. One of the most fun parts. Lastly, the best part, I order the things I'll need to decorate. Purple walls, half cork board and half whiteboard, little circle mirrors to place around my room, lavender curtains, soaps, shampoo, conditioner. All that type of stuff.
I never knew that shopping for boarding school in California would be fun. After adding up the prices in the checkout, my total comes to $12,572.83.
"Wow. That's a lot of money." Cole says, eyes wide.
"I know." I say. I didn't mean to spend that much. But they deserve it. And my parents aren't poor. We're actually pretty rich. Not like billionaire. But we have some cash.
"Mom!!" I yell. She runs upstairs.
"I'll need your credit card." I say. She looks at the computer screen. Her eyes widen, but she doesn't complain.
"Oh. Right. Of course." She says. Then she hands me her card. I opened several different tabs with different sights on them for all of my stuff. I put in all of the billing information and stuff, selecting express shipping, then order. On all of them. It costs a lot. Like so much money.
Oh well. I sit back and look at Cole. He looks back at me. I reach over and hug him.
"I'm going to miss you so much." I say, trying not to cry.
"I know. I'll miss you too. But with that new iPhone, we can FaceTime. And talk. All the time. Just promise me one thing." He says. I nod.
"Anything." I say.
"Don't forget me." He says. I start to say that I never will. He puts his hand up to stop me.
"Don't say that you never will because I've had people say it to me. And then they forgot me. Just don't forget me. No matter how many new friends you make. Just please, please, please never forget me." Cole says, starting to cry.
I just look at him. Then I reach over and hug him again. This time I don't let go. I start crying too.
"Come over tomorrow." I say.
"What?" He asks, looking up. I let go.
"Come over tomorrow. I want you to be there when I leave. And when I get my stuff. You can help me pack. You should stay the night tonight." I say.
"I don't know." He says warily.
"Come on. I'm not gone yet. And I never will be. Distance will never matter as long as we stay in touch. As long as we never forget each other. I will be home for breaks. And summer. And you will never lose me." I say.
"I will text you everyday. And we can FaceTime whenever we have time." I add.
"Okay." He says, wiping the tears off of his face.
"Now call your mom and tell her that you're staying the night and hanging out with me and taking me to the airport." I say. He nods, then takes out his phone to call his mom.
"She said ok." He says five minutes later.
"Great. Mom!!!" I yell.
"Yes?" She says, poking her head into my room.
"We finished ordering everything. And Cole is spending the night." I say.
"Oh. Ok. Now you need to pack everything else that you're taking. Oh. And tomorrow is Friday. I know I said you were leaving Saturday, but you're leaving tomorrow once you get your stuff packed and once it comes in. Just so you have time to settle in before you start school on Monday." She says. I nod and she leaves.
"This is so hard. And it sucks. I'm leaving tomorrow." I say. He laughs.
"But it's kinda fun. And the sooner you leave, the sooner you get to use your new stuff." He replies, smiling. He always tries to look at the up side of things. I smile back. Then we start packing everything else up.
