EVANGELINETAYLOR WASN'T STUPID. She excelled in school as a child, even more when she got to college. She wanted to help people from a young age, especially children. Her past caused most of that. Her stepfather was an alcoholic, often letting his rage out on her and her younger brother Samuel.
That's part of why Jason Gideon recruited her to the BAU. No one else on the team knew children like her. She could get into a mind of a child and make them talk like no one else.
She entered the bureau and was met with open arms. She fit into the family dynamic perfectly, making good connections with every member of the team. She was brought under Gideon's wing, he became her father figure. So you can imagine the hurt she felt when she found a letter from the man announcing his departure.
She was close to every team member, watching Jack for Hotch, talking to Derek about his past in Chicago, girls nights with Emily, JJ, and Garcia, even taking cooking lessons from Rossi. But she wasn't close to them like she was to Spencer.
Dr. Spencer Reid. Maybe it was their shared love for foreign film, or her eagerness to hear the facts he spewed out. Whatever it was, they hit it off immediately. She cracked the code he sent when he was taken by Tobias Hankel, held him when he had nightmares or migraines, she was the person he went to when he relapsed. She was his person, and he was hers.
Now, years later, the two are still as thick as thieves. They worked off of each other so well, Hotch started pairing them up regularly on the field with no complaint from either of them. Whether they were on a case, napping on the jet, or reading, they were always together. When you thought of Dr. Spencer Reid, you thought of Evangeline Taylor, simple as that.
Of course how close they were was bound to spark rumors. Hotch even brought both of them to his office once to ask if they were dating. He was met with red faces and confused questions. Did they really look like a couple? After that they never really thought about it again, going about their normal routine. That is until Derek Morgan makes a few teasing comments toward the two, causing the two to rethink their friendship.
