The sea was calm today. There was no waves, no ripples, just stillness. The smell of the ocean lingered, like kelp drifting on the sea floor. There were no humans to waddle around, looking at me like I was a freak. The wind flew through my silky sky blue hair. My curls bounced, as of the rest of my shoulder length hair.

I never thought that I would ever be at peace in my life, being a ripple and all. I thought to myself, unaware that my water spirit, Nydra could hear me.

Nayru, how could you ever think of yourself in such a way? You are special and that is the reason Why I am your water spirit. Not everyone is blessed with the Princess Nydra herself. She boasts.

I know she was just trying to make me feel better, but all I could hear was her scolding me on appreciating the fact that I have a moment of calmness in my life.

I start to hum to myself a somber song my mother sang as my sister was sent to her grave in the sea dunes. Even though it was sad, it felt calming and I do not feel so uptight anymore. I begin to sing the lyrics I know by heart as a drift in and out of sleep.

I watch the sea glisten in the sun, for my friend has come home, with her head held high, the stars shine bright accepting her presence in the sky

She will forever dance in the sky, as she was the star, I just hope that the sea foam welcome her with open arms

I feel a tear fall gently down my face, as I sing the song my mother wants to forget. I know that she wants to forget me, forget my sister, and focus on her wonderful son.

I lookup to see my mother walking out of the water. She has a frown on her perfect face, and if looks could kill, I would have been si-

"Nayru, you ungrateful brat! You must come back down into the sea. Your brothers wedding is starting soon!" My mother yells.

Someday, we will look at this and laugh, Nayru. Just you wait.  Nydra tells me, attempting to cheer me up.

Hopefully. I say in return, silently hoping that she is right, and this too shall pass, as I walk into the sea, watching my legs transform into my shining tail.
