Scientist Robert Quell and his assistant Marie Jumper are currently on a submarine in the Mariana Trench. They are currently 800 meters below the surface.

"Hey, do you really believe that there's a meg down there?" Marie asked Robert.

"I don't know, but I could really use a McDonalds right now."

They reached the Midnight Zone at 1,000 meters.

"Turn the lights on." Robert said while piloting the submarine.

Marie turned the lights on as she saw a gigantic anglerfish right outside the window. Robert was eating canned tuna.

"Wow! An anglerfish." She said.

Robert looked behind and didn't mind. They were currently 1,500 meters down. He told Marie not to mind any of the fish, but ironically:

"Look at that! It's a great white shark!" Robert said.

"Hey Robert, keep on driving." Marie said.

After a few minutes that felt like a year, they were currently at 1,800 meters down.

"How long is this gonna take?" Marie said.

"It's not gonna take that long. Just hang on." Robert said while eating.

After approximately 1 hour and 30 mins they reached the bottom at a staggering 11,034 meters.

"We're finally here!" Robert said.

"Hooray!" Marie exclaimed in excitement.

They were celebrating as they didn't notice they didn't fully reach the ground yet. As they both looked outside, they wondered about the megalodon that they came here for.

"It's already been multiple hours and no sight of a meg.." Robert said.

"I thought they were extinct. Why are we even looking for it?" Marie asked in confusion as she grabbed a seafood pasta from the kitchen.

They were getting closer to the bottom of the trench as Marie gobbled on her pasta.

"Alright, I'm gonna head to bed. Wake me up when we reach the bottom." Robert said as he yawned and went to his quarters.

They reached the bottom after about 10 minutes but they submerged into the sea floor.

The alarm sounded.

"What's going on?" Robert said as he ran outside.

"I don't know!" Marie said.

They didn't know what to do when suddenly the severe pressure cracked a hole in the rear window. Robert panicked.

"Oh no!!" Robert shouted.

"Get something! Get something!!" Marie shouted in fear.

Marie dropped her plate of seafood pasta as water started flowing in. Robert looked for something to cover the hole when he saw Marie covering the hole with her hands.

"Don't do that! Your hands could be sucked into the ocean!" He shouted.
"The escape pods! Come on!"

"Right!" Marie said.

The window crack started expanding and water was entering the submarine two times faster than it did before. They got in the escape pods and they deployed. In the distance, the submarine sank under the sea floor.

"H-how did the submarine and the escape pod go through the ground?!" Marie asked, scared.

"Maybe the sea floor is actually a cover disguised to protect a whole ecosystem down below. I think it was formed when the meteor hit the dinosaurs. You can see several fragments." Robert said as he put down his glasses on the table.

They couldn't see a single thing but darkness.. little did they know there was a whole ecosystem booming right below their feet.

"It's so dark here.. how are we going to get out?" Robert said.

"Well, all the propellers are crashed so our only hope of getting out of here is with outside help.." Marie replied.

After an hour they started getting cold. They both took shifts looking out the window every 2 hours.

"This is getting creepy.." Robert said under his breath, on his shift.

"Marie, check how deep we are." Robert said.

"Ok." Marie said.

"We are currently 14,734 meters down." Marie said.

"Wait a second .. Mariana Trench is only 11,034 meters down but we are.. Oh no.." Robert said in fear.

They just found out that the Mariana Trench actually extends deeper than 11,000 meters.

"Well I'm gonna sleep now, you also gotta sleep Marie it's been a long time now.." Robert said.

"What?! You're gonna sleep at a time like this?" Marie said in anger.

"Marie, we have zero ways of getting out. The least we can do is rest."

Robert finally fell asleep and Marie stood in the study room looking for an answe r on how to get out.

"Wake up!" Marie shouted.

"What?"

Marie slid down a large whiteboard with many calculations. Robert looked confused at first until Marie explained it all to him.

"What's this?"

"Well, you see.. the propeller is crashed.." she stopped for a second and continued. "so theoretically one of us could go outside and repair the propeller."

"So what are all these calculations for?" Robert asked.

"Oh, these are just calculations on where and how deep a meg could live in." Marie said.

"I mean the meg doesn't even exist right? I guess I spent many hours on nothing." Marie said sadly.

"According to your calculations, the meg could live in temperatures above 2 celsius.. and the water we are in is currently 16 celsius so theoretically a meg would be.. right over.." he looked at his map."Oh no."
