It was the 11th of February 2001. The sun was rising into the empty sky from behind a hill in the distance. The beams of golden light began to flood Ellie's bedroom. The wind lightly rustled the crunchy, brown leaves on the sidewalk outside. Then the alarm went off, breaking the sleeping silence. Ellie stretched her arm over to her alarm clock and switched it off. She was glad that she had woken up, her nightmare had finally ended.
Ellie glanced over at her alarm clock. 8:04 AM. It was just at that moment when she realised that it was her mother's birthday, and she hadn't written in her birthday card yet. Ellie jumped out of bed in a hurry. She didn't want her mum to be disappointed in her. She put on her dressing gown, made sure she opened her bedroom door quietly, and crawled down the stairs towards the living room. There was always a spare pen laying around.
She tip-toed across the landing and down the stairs into the hallway. She had never heard the house so quiet. Maybe it was because it was a Sunday Morning? Maybe it was because they were playing a prank? She didn't know, and she began to get worried.
Ellie slowly opened the living room door. As it opened, the hinges creaked. She walked in towards the couch, looking around the room for a pen. She spotted one laying on a piece of plain paper on the coffee table. She crawled towards it, trying not to make a noise. As she got closer, the floorboards began to creak. She reached the coffee table and noticed that the paper on the table had a note.
"You have 1 hour to pack up all your things and leave before we kick you out."
Ellie Sighed, she knew at once her parents hadn't paid the bills again and she would have to pack up her stuff and move again. They had only moved in a few weeks ago. The landlords were always on their case. She took the pen, ran upstairs and wrote out the birthday card, hoping that giving this to her the card would make me better.
Ellie ran downstairs with the birthday card in her hand. She raced through the living room, into the kitchen to see something that she wasn't expecting ...
