~Lights up on Carmen, sitting in a chair behind a table, with a bare bulb hanging above her~
"She tricked me. I wasn't expecting it at all. She said she'd love me forever...
/beat/
(*She taps her fingers on the table*) "We were friends since preschool... I never thought she'd change so much. (*Stops tapping*) It just doesn't make sense...
/beat/
"When I came out, she helped me talk to my parents. When her mum got cancer, I was there. (*Leans forward, exasperated*) And when she came out, I was right there alongside her. I was her best friend... (*Leans back*) I thought.
/beat/
"It's crazy how people can say one thing and change an entire life. Example: She changed mine when she said she loved me. And her friends changed hers when they said, 'No one wants to be friends with a (*enunciates*) dyke.' They, of course, didn't know she was gay like everyone knew I am.
/beat/
"Talk about the laughing stock of this stupid small town when I found out she was playing me. (*grows angrier*) Not only did she suddenly care what everyone else thought, but she went to great lengths to make sure no one thought poorly of her. (*she relaxes and puts her feet up on the table*) God forbid she actually be human.
/beat/
"I can still hear her saying, 'It's over, your gayness. I was just messing with you. I like boys, you freak.' As if being gay was the funniest thing in the world! (*Pounds on table and stands, visibly angry*) Ha! HILARIOUS! I can't think of anything fucking funnier than living life as an outcast! (*laughs uncontrollably, then sits again calmly*)
/beat/
"I guess you could say that's what set me off. What she said to me. So I devised a plan to get back at her.
/beat/
(*very quietly*) "I only meant to scare her... I didn't want to kill her.
/beat/
"I mean, I did. But I guess I just didn't know I really would...
/beat/
"It doesn't matter though. She's dead.
/beat/
(*she pauses, thinking of a way to justify it*) "She made my life hell in a matter of days. She DESERVED to die. She was asking for it. It's not my fault she was such a bitch. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who wanted her dead.
/beat/
(*Pauses for a shorter period of time. Smiles eerily*) "I'm just the one who got the job done." (*laughs*)

Teen FictionI wrote this for a creative monologue competition in my advanced acting class. None of this is true! I repeat: NONE OF THIS IS TRUE. But it is dramatic, so beware. P.S. I won the competition, in case you were wondering.
