He can't believe it's happened again. The dark bruise under his eye stares back at him in the mirror and looking at it makes him sick to his stomach.
Fluke's internal dialogue is interrupted by the sound of his phone getting a text message.

Boun: where are you? you said you'd come to lunch

Fluke knows he'll have to cover up his black eye, which he's done about a hundred times before.

To Boun: sorry, something came up. won't make it today

Fluke feels like shit for lying to his friend but it's better than telling the truth. Which is that his perfect relationship with his boyfriend, Mint, actually isn't perfect after all.

Fluke's phone pings again from a text.
From Earth: WHY ARE YOU ABANDONING ME

Shit. Boun must've told him.

To Earth: im sorry I'll make it up to you
From Earth: apology NOT accepted 😡 come here nooowww

Fluke knows Earth is much more persistent than Boun and may even show up at his apartment to drag him to lunch, it wouldn't be the first time. So he begrudgingly texts back an agreement and goes to work on covering up his bruise with makeup.

Once finished, his black eye is still a little visible so Fluke throws on a pair of sunglasses, hoping he won't bring too much attention to himself, and makes his way to restaurant.

"Fluke!"
Earth throws himself on top of Fluke once he sets sight on him, hugging him tightly.
Fluke greets his crazy friend as he struggles to keep his sunglasses from falling off as Earth practically climbs on top of him.

Fluke is dragged by Earth over to the table where Sammy, Ohm, Prem and Boun are sitting, already munching on food and talking to each other.

"Hey, finally you're here." Sammy cheerfully greets, pulling Fluke into a hug and chastly kisses his cheek. "These guys were driving me insane."
Fluke spends the next 2 hours fake smiling and laughing with his friends while feeling ashamed and sad on the inside. He wishes he could just rip off his sunglasses and tell them everything, but he can't. He doesn't know what Mint will do or how his friends will react. Maybe they won't want anything to do with him anymore. And as of right now, they are the only good thing in Fluke's life so he'll stay silent to keep them.

"Hey," a hand on his knee causes Fluke to stop his internal dialogue as he looks over to see Ohm next to him. "Are you okay? You're being more quiet than usual."
Fluke smiles at Ohm and replies with a nod.

"I'm good. Just a little tired."

Ohm squeezes Fluke's knee, which weirdly brings him comfort and nods, obviously satisfied with his response. Fluke smiles at Ohm's kindness and leans over to rest his head on Ohm's shoulder, eyes closing.

Being around Ohm brings him a sense of peace, calm and happiness that he's never felt with Mint or anyone else. Fluke doesn't know what that means or even what his feelings for Ohm are, but he chooses not to question it.

When the lunch comes to an end, Fluke checks his phone to find over 20 texts and missed calls from Mint. The texts are Mint apologizing over and over again, as is his usual routine.

"Hey, are you coming? We're going to get some ice cream." Ohm's deep voice slightly scares Fluke as the tall man appears from nowhere and asks.

"Sorry, I have to get home. Mint is waiting for me." Fluke tells him, even though he is dreading going home. He knows Mint will be there, waiting to give the same apology speech he gives everytime.

"Well we'll miss you," Ohm says, squeezing Fluke's shoulder as he turns to walk away. "Tell Mint hi for me!"

Fluke gets in his car, looks in the rearview mirror and the bruise is showing more due to his makeup having sweated off. Fluke slowly brings his fingers up to touch his eye and can't stop the tears that flow down his cheeks.
How did this become his life?
Fluke openly sobs in his car for a few minutes, letting out all of his sadness and frustration.

Fluke pulls into his driveway and internally groans when he sees Mint's motorcycle and Mint sitting on his front step, flowers in hand. Fluke gets out of his car and marches up to Mint, who rises to his feet when he sees Fluke.

"Baby, I am so sorry."
Fluke has heard that sentence a hundred times before and each time it gets repeated, Fluke believes it less and less.
"I was out of control and I never should've hit you. I'm sorry."
Mint pulls Fluke into his arms and Fluke stares off into space, tears escaping from his eyes and falling down his face.

He feels so pathetic as he rolls over in bed to see Mint laying next to him, already asleep. Fluke hates himself for forgiving Mint over and over again for hurting him, but he can't seem to let go of Mint.
Fluke let's out a quiet sob before slapping his hand over his mouth, not wanting Mint to hear him crying. He knows Mint will be angry at being woke up so he tries his best to keep his crying quiet.

How is this his life? He's loved by millions of people and he just wants Mint to love him too. Is there something wrong with him that makes him unlovable?

Mint moves over in his sleep to cuddle Fluke and Fluke smiles at the soft movement, wishing things could stay this way. But he knows better.
