It had almost been a week since Bay returned to live with Cepheus. The nymph could describe the experience so far in one word: boring.
The vampire was busy with his council, organizing some kind of arrangement between his kind and the fae. Cepheus had promised him that once this ordeal was over, they would be spending much more time together.
Bay couldn't help but grow impatient despite his promise. There was nothing to do in the castle but stare longingly out the window and chat with Isobel from time to time. Although even she had other duties to attend to.
The King was very strict on isolating him from others until he formally introduced him to his people and bore his mark. Territorial was an understatement when it came to the vampire's behaviour.
The sun was just about set and Bay was laying on the bed, staring at the ceiling. The temperature had dropped significantly since he'd been there so to his horror, he had been forced to wear socks.
His toes twitched uncomfortably in the foreign material, although someone entering the room had his head turning towards the door.
His brows furrowed and he straightened up when he realized the intruder was not his mate.
"Who are you?" The stranger asked.
The nymph turned his body to sit on the edge of the mattress and his head tilted in obvious confusion.
"I should be asking you that."
The boy in front of him had jet black hair, blue eyes and a slim build. A perfectly shaped brow was raised in cocky scrutiny and Bay couldn't help but feel slightly intimidated. The boy was beautiful.
"I didn't think this was gonna be a three way but I don't mind." The boy murmured in amusement.
"What are you taking about?"
Bay was so confused. But something about the vampire's words made his heart beat uncomfortably in his chest.
"You must be new." The boy laughed as he approached the bed. "Every Sunday the brothel sends their best performer to entertain the King. It's the highest honour for anyone in our position, so I recommend pulling your shit together before His Majesty joins us."
Now the nymph wasn't that naive. He quickly understood what the boy was referring to when he threw in words like "entertain" and "brothel". This vampire was sent to please his mate he had mistaken Bay as just another whore to keep the King's bed warm.
"I'm Val by the way. I don't think I caught your name."
Ringing sounded in the nymph's head and his throat became uncomfortably dry. The prostitute's words fell on deaf ears as Bay struggled to keep his breathing even.
Is this what Cepheus was doing all this time? While he was cooped up in this room, was his mate being unfaithful? Was he not good enough? Too young, too inexperienced? Was he the one that was boring?
Not even the sudden heavy footsteps of the man in question shook Bay out of his dark thoughts. Yelling was faintly heard along with crashing and sounds of a pain. Although it was happening so close to the nymph, it all seemed so far away; he felt detached.
He didn't even realized that he was crying until large hands were felt on his cheeks, swiping the tears that wet his skin.
Sound slowly filled his ears once again and he could start to hear the words that matched the movement of Cepheus' lips.
"Are you okay? Blue please talk to me. Did he hurt you?"
His last question struck Bay in his core and his skin prickled as if he had pins and needles.
