"So Dejanay", Julissa looked at me with a glint of mischief, "what are you planning to do after school". She asked in an innocent voice which is quite contrary to what her eyes where saying. I know why she was asking this question, she wanted me to go to one of her big brothers "kick backs", her way of forcing me to be her "black queen friend". "I'll be minding my business, Julissa" I muttered under my breath, I know it sounds harsh but this girl just doesn't know when to stop. You would've thought that after her brother made that stupid comment about Jamaicans being "illiterate and too aggressive" she would've gotten the idea that he was a racist asshole but in her own words he was just "joking around". Well I'm sorry, I don't take shit like that lightly and quite frankly it got me looking at both of them differently. Can you imagine what they say behind my back, I'm literally waiting for her to just hint at a racist comment for me to show her just how aggressive we Jamaicans can get. Lost in my thought of how I would flatline that girl I didn't realise that she left, leaving me at my seat in the library staring off into nothing. The giggling from across the room knocked me from my train of thought, there sat a white girl and her black boyfriend laughing at some airhead joke he made, now I'm not one to discriminate against interracial couple, in fact if it weren't for my Syrian Great-Grandfather and my Jamaican Great-Grandmother I wouldn't be here. It's just that it still baffles me as to why 90% of black boys in College no longer date us dark skin girls in fact that same boy has given me looks of "disgust" when he sees me talking to the white boys in my class. It isn't that I'm attracted to them, we were just talking about group assignments we had to get done. Apparently they are allowed to do as they pleased but if I do it I'm going against the grain, Again he is on my list of folks I wish would say shit to me. I then picked up my bag and left the library to get to my job at the "Jamie Café", It's the only place apart from Jamaica that I feel at home. Plus it's quite a popular destination for the elites to get their morning coffee, before heading to a day full of stress and unhappiness. Fortunately they are quite nice and give generous tips, plus it's owned by Mr. Jaimie Bennett, who is a straight up SHNACK!, this man could seriously do what he pleases with me and I'd ask if tomorrow works for him. Plus he is single, childless and from that one time he came to check on the building in his Grey sweatpants I know he is packing. We actually have a little flirting thing going on, and I relish in it.
