Chapter 10

Denki POV

I sat across from Sero in our table in the back of the lunchroom. We were quiet for a while, the indistinct chatter of other students filling the air.

"Thank you," Sero said finally. "For what you did this morning." He added.

"Oh. You're welcome," I said quietly, not exactly sure that was the best response.

"I'm sorry for hurting you," He blurted, his eyes not meeting mine. Tears began welling up in his eyes but he quickly blinked them back.

"It's fine. I deserved it," I said, picking at the untouched food on my tray. "That was nothing compared to what happened to you..." We fell back into an uncomfortable silence before Sero broke it.

"I forgive you," He said, becoming interested in the small gouges in the side of the table.

"Bros?" I asked.

"Bros," Sero agreed, a thin smile appeared on his face though it didn't quite reach his eyes.

"By the way, why did you cut your hair?" I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me. I shouldn't have asked but it was too late to take it back now.

"It's going to sound weird..." Sero said shyly, absentmindedly combing his fingers through his hair.

"You don't have to tell me but I'm sure it's not weird," I said, wondering if it would be best if I changed the subject.

"I cut it because I wanted to impress you," Sero yelled quickly, hoping that if he said it fast enough I wouldn't understand.

"What?" I asked, taken aback.

"I told you it was weird," Sero murmured, obviously embarrassed.

"Well, it worked. I'm impressed," I said truthfully, smiling across the table at him. Suddenly, Sero started rambling.

"You like Jiro and I thought if I cut my hair short like hers maybe you would like me-" He cut himself off, realizing what he had just said. He stood up, not making eye contact with me as he quickly walked away.

"Sero!" I called after him. Suddenly, it hit me. Had he just confessed to liking me?

Sero POV

I slid into the chair next to Mina's, burying my face in my hands. I couldn't believe I had just said that! How stupid could I be?

"Mina, I have a problem," I muttered, peeking at her through my fingers.

"What did you do?" She asked, raising an eyebrow at me though there was concern in her eyes.

"I accidentally confessed to Denki," I said, lying my head facedown on the table. I thought the world was about to end when Denki sat down next to Kirishima across the table from me. I forced myself to look up, focusing my eyes on Kirishima's tray. Denki put his elbows down on the table, his head resting on the backs of his hands.

"Okay. It's about time I tell you who I like," Denki said, getting straight to the point. Mina glanced at me out of the corner of her eye but was showing excitement that matched Kirishima's.

Without saying a word, Denki kept his head rested on one hand while pointing at me with the other. "Huh?" I asked, not quite getting what he meant.

"I like you, Sero," Denki said. The way he said it so straight forward. He must have been practicing it inside his head for days. "I was scared you didn't like me back," He added, a huge smile spreading across his face.

I looked away, rubbing the back of my neck. "I...I thought you liked Jiro?" I asked, caught off guard by his sudden change in crushes.

"Turns out I didn't like her as much as I thought. Someone else held my heart," Denki said smirking.

"WOAH!" Kirishima yelled, quickly covering his mouth as if he felt that he was ruining the moment.

"The real question is, will you be my Player 2 to my Player 1?" Denki asked, still smiling brightly. I glanced at Mina for support. She gave me a discrete thumbs up indicating for me to go for it.

"Of course I will," I said, barely holding back a smile. This had to be the best day of my life.
