Light in the Abyss

The Accident

   It was a normally warm day in Texas for Chip. Chip was ten at the time and holding a small job as a paper boy. He actually liked his job, 'Better than working with the cattle.' He said in his mind with a small sigh. It wasn't that he didn't like it, he just liked getting out of the house and seeing people. Especially "Jarred!" Chip whisper-yelled as he stopped his bike near his house. He made sure he looked acceptable before walking to his door, a goofy grin on his face.

   Chip knocked on the door and soon Jarred answered. He looked at Chip with his bright emerald eyes. His dark, short, fluffy hair blowing in the soft wind. "Hey Chip." He said as he took the paper, a bit of sadness stinging his voice. "H-hey Jarred, what's wrong?" Chip asked, noticing the hint of sadness in his voice. Jarred just sighed and said. "Dad..." Chip looked at the ground then back up at Jarred "What happened?" He asked. "He got angry and went to the bar again..." Jarred said as he fumbled with the plastic around the newspaper. "I just hope he gets back safely..." He said, looking down. Chip gave him a hug wanting to make him feel better. Jarred blushed slightly and hugged him back."he'll be back, he's done this before after all." Chip said as he pulled away. Jarred nodded, "alright...thanks Chip..." He said and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "See you tomorrow." He waved and went inside. Chip starred at the door and touched his cheek. He walked back to his bike, smiling like a dork.

   Chip had finished his route and was going to retrieve his payment for the day. He was in his own thoughts thinking about Jarred. He was so lost in thought that he didn't notice the car racing down the street. He finally noticed and tried to move...but it was to late...

   Chip fell face first into the pavement. He felt a sharp pain in his leg and looked, blood was gushing out like a waterfall. Chip gasped and felt dizzy. A woman walked up to him and started to yell something, but all he could hear was the ringing in his ears. He coughed up a bit of blood and started to close his eyes. He clung onto life as much as he could, but was loosing to much blood to quickly. He soon lost his battle for life and let the darkness consume him.  .   .   .  He was gone.
                                               
   Daniel (Chips dad) had just finished milking the cows and was sitting at the dining table eating an apple. He noticed his wife standing at the door. "Honey, is something the matter?" He asked as he got up and walked to her. "Chip shoulda been back by now..." Christina (Chips mother) said, looking out at the long driveway hoping to see Chip pull up. "Don't get to worried now, he's probably just with them friends of his." Daniel said, rubbing her back. Christina sighed, thinking that she was over reacting. She nodded and started to head inside until a boy ran into the driveway. "Mr. Mrs. Blaze! Come quick! To the hospital!" The boy yelled. They looked at each other before they ran to their truck, making their way to the hospital. When they got there they made their way through a crowd and was escorted to a room. When they got there, they saw the most horrible sight.

   Chip's leg was cut off some of the bone still sticking out. Huge gashes were cut in his skin and his mouth was deformed. Christina screamed and cried, "MY BABY!!!" she screamed and ran to his lifeless body. "MY POOR BABY!!!" Daniel was to overwhelmed in shock and sadness that he just fell to his knees and watched Christina. "No, no, no, no, NO!!!" Christina screamed as she held her son's face. "NO!!!" She cried out and hugged his body tightly. Daniel went over to her and joined the hug as a few tears fell from his eyes.

   "It was discovered a week ago that Jarred's father, Nick West, was the reason for the death of Chip Blaze. He was arrested for drunk driving and murder. We are all very sorry for your loss Mr. and Mrs. blaze..." The reporter said as she looked at the camera. Christina cuddled close to her husband feeling anger and sadness throughout her body. she softly cried in his chest as Daniel hugged her tighter.
