Tonight on my way to work I couldn't help but notice that same pair of red eyes from yesterday following me. It was also as if I was being haunted by a faint flapping from above. There were quite a few moths hanging around the storefront, it's not that unusual for this time of year but there weren't nearly as many last night. I got inside and clocked in as normal at 7:60pm and took up my post at the front counter. There was a radio next to the register that I hadn't noticed on the way in, it was on but none of the stations I tried worked. I began to take inventory in the candy aisle which took me about an hour, we always sell out of peanut butter M&M's pretty quickly.
My night went by relatively smoothly for the next hour or so with a few truckers coming by for gas and coffee. I noticed a few moths came into the building, I swatted one that was nearing the hot dogs which was followed immediately by the radio coming alive with a robotic sounding voice.
"trinadtsat', pyatnadtsat', dvenadtsat', vosem', trinadtsat', odin, chetyrnadtsat'"
This repeated several times which led into the lights cutting out as the sound kept playing. I felt a strong breeze as the sound of the automatic doors opening was barely audible over the increasingly loud radio which had started to become static. Those red glowing eyes appeared in the doorway, staring directly into mine. The volume ever increasing, the words becoming that much harder to comprehend, the eyes shot past me in one swift movement. The breeze almost knocked me to the ground as it came back around and out the door, then everything went back to normal.
My ears rang as I checked the damage. The radio was gone...but so were all of the Slim Jims and light bulbs. I took a moment to find my composure and realized it was time to clock out. I walked a little quicker than normal on the way back home. Note to self: pick up some bug spray, A LOT of bug spray.
AN: Hope you liked the chapter, this is going to be the general length of future chapters. I'm really enjoying writing these :)
