I woke up to wet slobber.

The sheets were warm and I didn't want to leave the bed. But with a 70 pound beagle pressing my stomach, I had to breathe.

"Max get off!" I squealed.

Another wet lick, and a loud happy bark. Sweet, dummy dog.

I kicked at the blankets and flailed, and lost my balance tumbling off the bed.

I got a face full of dirty green rug.

I rolled over, groaning. "Max I hate you sometimes."

He only barked, and I heard him fart.

Yay. It was probably on my pillow, again.

"Aurora! Get up, we're going to be late!" mom yelled.

"I just got assaulted by Max give me a sec!" I yelled back.

Lydia came into my room, leaning against the door. "Dumbass get up."

I sat up and glared at her. "Don't be a bitch."

She rolled her eyes. "We're gonna leave you behind."

I grabbed my pillow and threw it at her back as she left. "Hate you too my wonderful sister."

My only response was her flipping me off.

I scrambled up and yanked on my jeans and a shirt. I was not gonna be left behind while everyone else got to go on the road trip.

No time to sing in the shower. I ran downstairs and looked around.

"Hey where's my sneakers?!" I yelled.

Mom passed me. "Sneakers? Good god I threw them out."

"Mom!"

She scoffed. "They were falling apart. And don't give me that look, you know it."

"But they were so comfy..." I mumbled.

I yanked on my sandals instead, mourning my fallen soldier sneakers.

RIP my Adias. I'll never forget you.

"Lydia and Aurora, get in the car!" Dad bellowed.

My sister came running down the stairs, dragging her black suitcase behind her. "No don't go!"

I ran out the door in front of her. I wasn't gonna let her get shot gun.

I yanked open the door.... Parker was already in shot gun.

"Ew girl germs!" he yelled.

"Stop being a child!" Lydia barked.

"Lydia hes ten!" Mom snapped. "And Aurora, get in the car!"

"Yeah I'm ten!" Parker laughed.

I rolled my eyes and jumped in the car, squishing in next to Lydia.

She recoiled. "No I'm not sitting with you!"

"Girls be quiet!" Mom snapped. "Put a tote bad in between you if you're going to whine."

Lydia slammed her suitcase in between us, pushing me against the window.

"Mom Lydia is squishing me!" I yelled.

Aaaand I got a glare in response.

"Alright, everyone buckled up?" Dad cheered.

"Yes Steven stop being so cheerful." Lydia groaned.

"Lydia dont call your father by his first name!" Mom scolded.

I shoved the suitcase into lydias side, flipping her off.

"Girls!" Dad cried. "C'mon this is a family road trip! There'll be more room in Aunt Jane's camping trailer, so just hang tight till then."

"Yeah we're gonna meet her in four hours!" Parker snickered. "Don't be babies."

Lydia lunged forward. "You spoiled little-"

"Brat!" I finished.

Mom swatted Lydia back. "Don't hit your brother."

Lydia frowned at me. "I wasn't gonna say that-"

"Mom hasn't had her coffee don't start swearing now." I hissed.

Mom glared at me. "I heard that."

Lydia groaned. "Fine."

"Why can't we move Lydias suitcase to the empty seat?" I asked.

"Because I said so." Mom snapped.

Lydia and I looked at dad, but he only gave us a pitying look and a salute.

Dad started the car. "Here we go!"

"Next stop is in two hours!" Parker cheered.

"Whoopee." Lydia muttered.

I pulled out my phone and headphones.
